Philippines: Business Opportunity for Folks with Contacts in Japan:

A typical MLM. You don't make money unless you can convince people to get in under you. The amount of people you need is huge but they need to feed off of new people. You have to convince people to buy a product off of someone who buys the product off of the person you were buying off of to begin with. It doesn't make sense unless you look at it with rose colored glasses. Whenever you need to make money off of recruitment rather than the product it's a suckers bet.

Philippines: Retiring soon:

I was told by someone that if you retire at 65 it takes until you are 74 to make up the loss of retiring at 62. How long do you plan to live past 74?

Philippines: Visa for the Philippines?:

Make sure you wear a raincoat

Philippines: Filipina wife of 20 years dies:

I believe you have some rights. I talked to a fellow who owned Adeles resort (sp?) in Singdagan. His wife passed away and he was able to get 50% with 50% going to relatives but not without a fight. You may be able to track him down, he seemed very talkative. You may try to google cocnut Grove Resort. I will see if I can come up with a contact. But either way a Lawter may be needed.

Philippines: Property taxes:

We have property with $400 back taxes. It is from who knows how many years back There are 8 lots with 8 different property owners and the other 7 refuse to pay the back taxes. I give up trying to figure it out. I know every once in a while someone in our family takes a few bucks down to the City Hall and puts a little on the tab.

Philippines: Living in/around Calbayog City:

If I am not mistaken this area has a problem with the Communist Rebels rather than the Muslim Rebels. Incidents are way down but I think I remember one from last year.

Philippines: Booking a flight:

My last flight in December was under $1000 cheapo air

Philippines: visiting phils for 1st time:

My opinion is to get as far away from Manila as possible. It always drives me nuts and I could never get comfortable. If it is your first time stay in resort areas. they are generally safe. Spend time doing nothing but walking on the beach, eating at the restaurants and talking. Avoid visiting family if possible or until you have full trust. Keep your cash secure.Give her $100 dollars worh of pesos and tell her to pay for the day because you can't figure out the currency. See how she handles it. Enjoy yourself no matter what.

Philippines: Banking and money in the Philippines (Or you must be kidding.......we aren't by the way.):

I don;t know much on this topic but Security Bank was the best ATM machine for me. Never failed to deliver on my US card. Most of the others were hit and miss, mostly miss.

Philippines: Why are the Philippines so poor?:

This article hit the nail on the head. https://correctphilippines.org/filipino_first_fail/ Everything in the Philippines is junk or impossible to get. I would like to send a Rototiller to my brother-in-law. It would improve the quality of life so much. Taxes are 100% and so much red tape it is not worth it. So he hires a Caraboa and stays in the stone age. All imports are strictly controlled and prohibitive. The government is their worse enemy.
