Costa Rica: has anyone filed for residency:

Hi. I am married to a Costa Ricense. We have two children 9 and 11. I will be taking my kids to live in CR 8/2018. My husband will stay behind in the US for a yr or 2 to settle everything here (we have a home) while the kids and I go live where he has family. Has anyone filed for residency. I know I need our birth certificates and my marriage certificate authentitized by our state and then the Costa Rican embassy in the US prior to leaving. I see they are requiring financial certification. What kind of financial certification? We are also bringing our dog. If anyone can offer advise, I would be most greatful. Thank you.
