Colombia: Villages near Armenia for retirement:
The crime rate is not as low as you would expect in those towns around Armenia.
Lots of Narcos have their homes there (in both places you mention) and sometimes their "associates" come for a visit.
My GF lives in Calarca, and I wouldnt live there. Maybe Circasia and Quimbaya are better.
But then I hear all the "stories"
Colombia: For a 90-180 day trip what would you absolutely bring to COL:
I have never seen a tech shop in Colombia willing to unlock a foreign phone and insert a sim card.
Maybe in a big place like Ecc Monterrey in Medellin,
Whats your experience?
Colombia: Swim, bike, run and rent a durnished room or live with a family.:
Most important thing by far in considering Colombia is to give serious consideration to possible tax consequences if you chose to stay more than 183 days in a year.
Colombia: International Trip Cancelation / Interuption insurance for Colombian Expats:
I am getting a little desperate here.
I do a lot of travelling inside and out of Colombia and internationally,
Seems the trips have been screwed up lately a lot due to one of the following:
1. My travel partner getting sick at the last minute. (I never have this problem)
2. Colombian Airlines screwed up -airports closed due to rain, fog etc.
3. Colombian Airlines screwed up- Flight cancelled for "maintenace"
I am trying to find a good insurance company that would pay for losses in case of trip cancelation or interruption for any of the above.
For example, I am planning a trip to Cancun. If we have to cancel at the last minute , could lose $480 for hotel charges and as much as several hundred dollars for Airline tickets , depending on future ticket pricing. Say maximum $800 US.
Ideally I would like a Canadian Company, as a Canadian citizen, I could contact the Better, Business Bureau and ombudsman, or even threatening to put a claim in small claims court if they tried to screw me (I have been through this in the past).
But hopefully, this wouldn't be necessary, and if anyone knows of any reliable travel insurance company that provides international travel insurance from Colombia to other points internationally, it would be appreciated.

Colombia: Can you drink the water in Colombia:
I have been drinking the water directly from the llaves, for at least 13 years, in all parts of Colombia. Never had any issue.
Had food poisoning a few times, thats another issue.
Of course my stomach was "expat hardened" a long time ago.

Colombia: MAY MOVE TO MEDELLIN:
Last Time I went (it was in Manizales abot 2 weeks ago) they made me fill out the online form first, which was a pain, and seemed irrelevant, since the guy asked me all the same questions over.
Colombia: City Other Than Your Own:
I live in Manizales. Other than the fog and rain and old diesel buses, itis perfect for me. Nice cool climate, low crime, lots of mouuntain views, easy transport, relatively safe, nice (but restrained) people, lots of nature al around, good places to hike, run, bike. Good restaurants (once you find them), just enough clubs for drinks and dancing, relatively close to other cities, good gymnasuim, right size, not to big, not to small.
I heard Buca was even nicer, but the climate is too hot for me.
I will hopefully move to Armenia in about August. hat is pretty good spot as well. A little higher crime rate and scuzzier on the south side, anyway, and in some of the surrounding villages (guess you could say the same for Mani though).
I also wuldnt mind Santa Marta., but up in the hills if I was driver, towrads Minca...but realy that is too remote. Or maybe on the beach with coolocean breezes.. Some say Santa Marta is dirty. I dint really find it that bad but I didnt spend much time here. Just the historic district.
Medellin is 5 times the size of Manizales. I lived in Envigado and
Colombia: GNB Freezing Transfers due to Forumla 160:
First it should be clarified that Formulario 160 is the document theoretically required by DIAN, that lists your world wide assets. Not the Form DS-160 Colombian have to fill out to obtain a US visa.
I dont have a bank in Colombia, and never transfer money here, butI have never heard of any issues from any of my friends banking in BancoColombia or other banks.
Also, all the expats I know, many of whom have signidficant assets in the US and Colombia, never get asked by thier Colombian accountant about US income or assets, and most havent heard of Formulario 160.
It would be interesting to hear what your friend´s discussion with DIAN has been. Do they insist he fill out the form?
I think you should both change banks.
