United Kingdom: Where is a good place to live near London?:
If you can work from home, and one of your goals is to travel around in Europe, I advise you to reconsider relocating to the UK. A better option would be to move to Europe. Waterloo, Belgium is a nice place to live, you can live among locals, yet have access to a vibrant expat community (and schools, international as well as French). People are welcoming to foreigners, and you will have a truly European experience. Due to Brexit, travelling to Europe with a UK car, will not be a pleasant experience. People will assume you are British, or at least support the UK by migrating there, and you will not be very welcome, as tensions are about to become very visible over the next months and years. Also, English people do not like foreigners, and you riks becoming isolated.
My advise in a nutshell: move to Europe, forget UK.
Belgium: English speaking physiotherapist in Brussels:
Hi John, do you have a website?
United Kingdom: School for 1 year with travel:
I do not think it will be easy to find schools that will be flexible enough in London.
If possible, I would consider relocating to the Schengen area in Europe. Tervuren, Waterloo in Belgium have English-speaking homeschooling groups (PM me for details) , American scouts and guides, counseling and learning support, and there is a vibrant expat community. Belgian people are very generous and welcoming, and schools can register a student part-time (PM me for specific procedure), which may be something to try for French immersion. Brussels to London is very easy with Eurostar (high-speed train).
Belgium: Moving with 15 year old to flämisch Part:
Hi,
Flemish people are known to be very welcoming to foreign people, especially families.
Your daughter can be admitted into a Flemish school, but the principal (the head) of the school decides in which year group and which stream she can enter, based on prior knowledge. Therefore, it is important that you check out a few schools, as every school decides how to best approach the integration of a 15 year old, new student.
In Belgium, the BAC does not exist:
students who pass their term exams, will automatically obtain a diploma that gives them access to a European university. Belgian universities require a pass grade, other universities (in Germany, France, Austria) may require a higher average result over all subjects.
My daughter had to learn German from scratch, at the age of 15, and became fluent in it after only 12 months - she is now studying in Cambridge, partly because this experience was proof of her academic ability and perseverance.
The international schools in Brussels are expensive, and may not have space for a 15 year old. There are no French schools in the Flemish region (by law), but your daughter will have compulsory French lessons in school. Wednesday afternoons are free, and your daughter will be able to follow art, music, dance, sport lessons.
I hope this information helps!
Wishing you all the best!
Belgium: Shipping to Belgium:
Hi!
Are you sure you want to transport a car from the UK to Belgium?
If your register the car in Belgium, you can take the number plates to the Uk with you, put them on the car, and drive the car from the Uk to Belgium yourself.
If the car has the wheel on the wrong side however, you will not be able to register the car in Belgium, as this is not in line with Belgian regulations, Your only option is to insure your car in the UK, but it is very difficult to find an insurance company that will insure your car for continuous use abroad.
Belgium: Landlord charges for pets - advice:
Hi,
it is not that simple. If you rent a country house, there is no reason why a landlord should prevent you from keeping pets. However, if you rent a small apartment, there have been rulings in Belgium in favour of the landlords. What is essential is that pets do not cause damage or problems (excessive noise, odour, ...) for the neighbours and that the apartment is spacious enough. Keeping a large dog will not be permitted.
If you cannot come to an agreement with your landlord, I advise you to get a lawyer.
Belgium: Belgium is good for Africans:
HI, how are you doing now? Have you found a position in Belgium?
Belgium is very open-minded and people are not being discriminated based on their skin or their origin. I know of several Mexican girls, who have done a PhD in Belgium, and have been offered jobs with local companies. However, in Belgium language skills, work ethic and references are very important to land a job. Do not despair! If you speak English and you are motivated and skilled, you have a good chance of landing a job in Belgium. However, there has been a gradual increase in job applications from abroad, and competition is really hard. That does not mean Belgian companies/universities discriminate.
