Fiji: Swine Flu - H1N1:

When it comes to the swine flu in Fiji there is no major break out. Myself or my family have not had the Vaccination it is available at an expected cost, I would reccommend anyone who is travelling to fiji and Visiting the villiages to get the shot with a "just in case" mindset. People are not majorly concerned about the swine flu, their is a saying "sega na Laga" which basiclly means "no worries" But for any tourist or potential expat it will be best to take all precautions. With the current situation in Fiji on the political side, its business as usual as long as you dont speak against the government. Things can change dramatically especially around the capital of Suva, I would suggest if anyone is a strong activist for the people to keep their opinions to themselves or be prepared to get ruffed up a little and put on the first plane to wherever that plane is going. It does not matter how much money you have or who you are, if you speak against the government and they find out we all would expect to read about it in our countrys newspaper. In saying that Investors are still putting millions into new developments, expats are opening new businesses and the tourism sector is still operating, and the Fiji people are still the friendliest in the Pacific. So all I can say is Respect the Government or Tolerate the situation, and keep an ear to the ground at all times, if there does happen to be politically upheavel and anyone is around the Suva area I suggest to go over to the west side of the Island for a bit until it settles down. I also Higly Reccommend for all to be security conscious or be just a little more conscious than usual, there is a higher unemployment rate at the moment and at certain times anyone can get a little desperate. Anyone who is not Fijian or Indian is considered to be wealthy, even if you only got two bucks in your pocket. Personal Security is reccommended.

Fiji: moving to fiji:

hi, I am planning on moving to fiji in 3 months I have travelled to fiji over the last 3 years and and made really good friends, i have managed to learn some of the language and am very comfortable with the culture and lifestyle. I already have a place to stay, but at the moment my only dilemma is finding a job, I am a painter by trade within the construction industry, does anyone have suggestions in finding a job suitable for expats. I will welcome any kind of information that will help me secure my move to fiji....Help
