About apinoargote

I am an American married to an American/Ecuadorian dual citizen. I have extended family in Ecuador and have visited many times. Our short term plans are to move to Salinas, where we are developing a small community of beach front condos. Having had the benefit to visit Ecuador "like a native" I can honestly say it is a place where I would really like to live. I am happy to share my thoughts and experiences with anyone who is thinking of visiting or moving to Ecuador.

Ecuador: Exporting from Ecuador:

Anybody have experience exporting from Ecuador to the US? I am interested in exporting a small quanity of accessories and am trying to find out a reliable way to ship and also what are the import tax requirements for samples as opposed to larger quanties.

Ecuador: salinas weather.:

I have family in Salinas and visit the area at least once a year. From about November through May the days are typically hot (high 80s) and sunny, while the nights cool down to the 60s. June through October is "winter" there. The weather tends to be about 15 to 20 degrees cooler than during the warmer months. It is also more likely to be overcast, but doesn't rain much, which is nice since the cooler tempatures are perfect for outdoor activities. I don't know if you plan to spend much time in Guayaquil. The tempatures run as much as 10 degrees warmer there than in Salinas, since you don't have the benefit of catching lots of ocean breeze, like you do on the pennisula. Hope this helps.

Ecuador: anti US sentiment:

I am a US citizen married to a dual US/Ecuadorian citizen. We live in the US, but visit Ecuador frequently. I have many familiy members that live there as well. I have never experienced any anti-US sentiment while visiting (most recently in December 2007). An article was published last week in one of the major Colombian newspapers, which indicated that Correa is not a "follower" of Chavez. I tend to agree with that, as from what I have seen in the country and heard from my relatives is that Correa's goal is to improve the economy and quality of life in Ecuador, but not by nationalizing everything the way Chavez is doing. We feel comfortable enough with the future of Ecuador that we are planning to relocate to Salinas within the next year or two. The only thing holding us back is the slow real estate market here in the US - we can't sell our house!

Ecuador: Internet in Ecuador:

We just started building a beachfront condo development in Salinas, Ecuador. We ordered broadband. It took a few weeks to hook up (they had to extend the cable from the main line to our property), but the wait wasn't unreasonable. Prices are lower than you would pay for comparble service in the U.S. By they way, if you are looking for a property visit our website at www.condominiospondylus2.com.

Ecuador: English newspapers:

I can provide you with information on getting digital copies of English language newspapers from the States.

Ecuador: Living in Salinas:

We saw your posting about looking for a condo in Salinas. Not sure if you have already found something. My husband and I are Americans, with family in the Salinas area. We just launched a beachfront, gated development in the quiet Costa de Oro community, which is part of Salinas. We have 34 units for sale, ranging from a one bedroom suite in the $50s to 3 bedroom/2 bath condos in the mid 70s to 80s to a 2 story penthouse with private balcony for $150,000. Ammenties include pool, gym, sauna, secured parking, beachfront social area and direct beach access. You can visit our website at www.condominiospondylus2.com. I personally would highly recommend Salinas as a place to own a home. That's why we decided to build there and plan to use one of the units as our own vacation property.
