Austria: Need Advice! Should I go to to Vienna?:

I need some help deciding. I don't know a word of German, only English. Will I be comfortable in Vienna? On top of that, I'll be taking a huge pay cut. But I do want the experience of living and working in Vienna. The other factor is my salary. It'll be 2040 euro x 14 ie 28540 per annum. I'm a degree holder and have more than 3 years experience. Is this a reasonable salary in Vienna for a scientific/technical job? Will I be able to live reasonably well? What is the rent for a room likely to be? Will cost of living be high? I still have family to support back home. Although I do want to go to Vienna, I'm thinking it might not be worth it at such a salary.
