Kuwait: Salary expectations for IT positions:
As far as your family is concerned, my wife and daughter have been here for 2 yrs. My daughter is in 10th grade. Runs me about 8k for the school year. More than likely getting then here will be on you. If you have use of the APO I suggest them mailing any clothes they want above what they can bring on the airplane. As for the hours, much better having my family here, I get to see them more than just 1x a yr for 2-3 weeks.
Kuwait: Kuwait FurnishedApartments:
I dont know that the ten story at 210 and the 30 off ramp is called Red Tower and I believe that building is only 1-2 bedrooms, but it is managed by the same manager as Red Tower. Red Tower is located 1 exit south on 211 headed towards the gulf on left side. Those are studio through 3 bedrooms. I live there 2 years now. Yes Red Tower has a pool. They recently enclosed it as well. Lots of new stuff directly around the building as well. Cosmo bowling alley comin soon, with gym and McD's in the same building, fatoosh just moved there from 211 and a new idian rest. as well as an American BBQ nearby.
Kuwait: Kuwait 2010:
Hey Mick. Yes, the Friday market is near the Avenues. It is between 4th and 5th ring. 4th ring behind the garden shops. Coming from 5th ring, after passing 40, 45 etc. take Airport rd (it's 55 iirc), NOT to airport. Heading toward 4th ring. Just before 4th ring on the left you will see Lulu Hypermarket. Turn around at 4th ring and head back. Just past Lulu you can turn in and head past Lulu keeping Lulu on your right. You will see a walled area with green sunshades all over. Thats Friday market. I have been there only a couple times on Friday. More often I go on Saturday. Basically there are three approaches I've used to get there. Good luck and happy bargain hunting!
Kuwait: Any South Africans in Kuwait?:
binks, way to go! great job on showing your ignorance and your stupidity for showing it. Just as most people who blast Americans do. But just which accent do you refer to? Because you obviously have no clue what an American is. Seriously, before you say something else stupid, stfu.
Kuwait: Auto Electric:
Hi all,
Ive been looking for a place to get everything AUTOMOTIVE electrical. I have gotten bits and pieces from ahmadi, fahaheel to shuwaikh. Im overhauling the engine wiring and need to find a one stop shop. does it exhist? I have been to bin nasf, great selection of terminals but no auto wire. Ace has some wiring if it's in stock. cant find anything bigger than 10 ga. Also need terminal blocks, inline fuse, maxi fuse etc. Can resort to Summit etc but would rather find local. THX
Kuwait: Home Improvement Store:
Hiya Shells,
I have not seen a "home depot" I have found a smaller store similar to it in Shuwaikh off Canada Dry St (3rd Ring ). From what I recall seein (found it roamin around w/wife) it was priced dollar-dinar, so a bit expensive. Is it specifically what you are looking for is home depot/lowes type format? I have been searchin for advance/auto zone style autoparts but no luck.
Roadrage is correct there is an Ace. Also a Tru-value. both are in Shuwaikh and 1 of them has 2 locations i have found. all these I have found in the great auto parts search/journey. I wont try to give directions here, but feel free to contact me, I'll do my best to get you near them.

Kuwait: Cars Doctor is out to cure!!!!:
Oh how true! Dont forget that most of the work is shoddily done by hacks and junkyard part changers. I got ripped on Canada Dry st by a so called electrician. I ended up rewiring the engine compartment ( 1982 Cutlass) myself to fix the garbage work they performed. Since then its been a grueling task find everything I need to do all the work I need to do properly. I have some insight for any DIYers just contact me, I'll share what I know.
Kuwait: AAA Housing:
I have been to every AAA apt in Fahaeel, Mangaf, Abu halifa and mahaboula while looking for apt for when my wife and daughter arrived a year ago. They are very nice apts, well furnished, maid service etc. Only problem I had is they are a bit costly.
Kuwait: mother of 3 planning to move to kuwait wanting to visit with other mothers about everything:
Hi Simmons,
Im guessing your comin from Killeen? My wife and daughter got here last June. My daughter is 13. We moved from Killeen back north, in 07 and daughter had a hard time makin friends, took awile. she went to school all her life in killeen. I say this only because when she started school here in Kuwait she took off like a rocket. Made friends from day 1 from all different nationalities. So dont sweat that too much. They should be fine. Try Fahaheel English School, www.skee.com approx. $9 k for 8th grade (the say year 9). I paid that for an all girls school for her in Western N.Y, so I dont think it's too bad. Plus factor in the culture they will get. In my opinion homeschool would be counter-productive to them as far as socially. Ive meet several kids that are home schooled here and they are beggin for the social attention. Just my experience.
As for the driving. i dont want to scare you, just the facts, no sugar coating. Strap your boots on! lol I cant stress enough, you must be very alert and watch evryone. the unexpected is the norm here. its not bad once you get used to it, just dont expect the same courtesies from other drivers as you would back home. Any questions feel free to contact me. beepbeep73440@yahoo.com
Kuwait: Possible Move- Nervous and scared!!:
Well Yemi summed it up pretty well. Relocating is never easy but not too difficult here. My wife and 13yr old daughter came to stay end of June last year and they don't plan on goin back to the states. My daughter loves it here and plans to graduate here. You should have no problems finding a teaching job. The biggest things for me is the driving habits here. The way people drive here is downright dangerous and inconsiderate. Ive been here 3 years and still get annoyed. Dont let that put you off though, you just need to pay a bit more attention and expect the other driver to do the unexpected lol. Most places outside the malls, namely the small shops, haggle haggle haggle. I cant say enough about that. Everyone believes that Americans have money to burn and will gouge your wallet/purse any chance they get. Keep in mind 1 Kuwait Dinar = approx $3.75. most things seem to be matched 1 for 1. ie if it costs $1 its priced at 1 KD. I really do like it here in Kuwait and there is plenty to do. Just get out and explore! You will do fine.
