Kuwait: Desperately Seeking Employment!:

By all means go out for a holiday and have a look around. You can stay for a few weeks on a visitors visa which you get when you arrive. Bottom line is you can't stay long if you don't have a job. No sponsor - no resident's visa. I think it is best to keep trying for work through the agencies from home, but that is just an opinion.

Kuwait: Babies in Kuwait:

If you send me a private message with your email address I will send you the file "What to do in Kuwait". It contains comprehesive details of main attractions and some contact details for Expat groups.

Kuwait: moving to Al-Jahra:

Someone already asked this question http://www.expatexchange.com/expat/index.cfm?frmid=242&forumid=0&dbname=ee&tpcid=3339847&shared=N The advice is to keep well clear out of Jahra unless you are a bedoon.

Kuwait: Mandatory retirement age, new universities, cats, cars, maids, electronics, approved DVD titles, HIV testing, etc.:

4) Sell the car or store it until you return to US. Dont bring it to Kuwait. 5) There is no shortage of Philipino and other expatriate maids in Kuwait who will be pleased to work for an American. Your employer should be able to guide you in employment procedure. It is not expensive to employ a maid. 6) Don't bring 110v appliances. Sell them in US. You can buy cheap 2nd hand when you arrive. Don't expect to use HighSpeed Internet. there is only slow-speed internet in Kuwait (even at premium prices). Although Skype is technicall illegal (to protect the phone companies) it works fine and the restriction is impossible to enforce. 7) By all means bring your DVDs. There is no list of banned titles and you should have no problems. If you are unlucky to be searched they will simply confiscate offending items. 8) As part of the residency process you will be screened for HIV, Hepatitis & TB.
