You should use native Ecuadorian seeds if you are truly an "avid" gardener. There are many vegetables here including corn beans squash, tomatoes, potatoes, radishes, lettuce, cabbage (Mine grew to three feet in circumference). So do not contaminate the ecosystem like what has been negligently or intentionally done in other parts of the world.

Many people, if not most, and more recently it seems move here for the wrong reasons. They fear American "socialism" yet move to a socialist country to enjoy the benefits of socialism and are happy to do so without paying any taxes.
