Belize: 3-acre lot: Private sale in Sanctuary Belize:

For those who didn't make it into Phase 1 of Sanctuary Belize, here's and exceptional lot on offer by private sale due to owner's medical hardship. This almost square 3-acre lot is ready-to-build and served by roads, electric and water. Sunset views of the Maya Mountains are available to the west and, depending on how you build, you could have a sunrise Caribbean view to the east. Walk to the marina (now open) and marina village (under construction). It's just a two minute golf cart ride to the private beach and beach club (now open). Photos, pricing and more details at: www.S103SanctuaryBelize.info

Belize: Dremscapes of Belize/Dangriga:

We've noticed a number of projects in Belize seem to be stalled. Perhaps Dreamscapes, but also Palmetto Bay. Last year we bought a parcel at Sanctuary Belize (www.sanctuarybelize.com). Have you check that out yet? Work there is proceeding on a continual basis. The new marina will be flooded in next 2-3 months and folks are starting to build. If you decide to look into it, contact Bill Bannon, Director of Sales (949.757.0949) and let him know Tim & Bernd from Vancouver recommended you call and that we say 'hello'.

Belize: Gated communities near Placencia?:

We too considered Orchid Bay but preferred something around Placencia. After much due diligence we bought at Sanctuary Belize, an eco-preserve community. The Director of Operations, Bill Bannon, was especially patient and helpful in dealing with us. We suggest you contact him, and by way of introduction, tell him Tim & Bernd from Vancouver recommended you call. Contact info is on their website: sanctuarybelize.com

Ecuador: Ecuador or Uraguay or Thailand?:

Hi Dave, Just want to add our 2 cents as to why my husband and I (we are a gay couple) chose Montevideo, Uruguay to buy a modern apartment in MVD's gentrifying Ciudad Vieja neighborhood. We live in Canada, and until we retire to UY we rent out the apt. on short-term basis to expats and tourists. See our website at www.casasarandi356.com. Cost of living in Uruguay is cheaper than N.America. It has first world communications (high speed WiFi in our apartment confirms it). Banking privacy is still largely intact. Most people are sincere and honest (have not experienced any "rip off the gringo" mentality in UY). Real estate (at least in MVD) is still affordable. Climate is rather benign and no natural disasters to speak of. Travel to MVD can done for much less $$ if you get a low airfare to Buenos Aires and then take the ferry over to MVD. Uruguay is so far the only country in S.America with a national civil unions law that treats gay and straight couples equally. Most Uruguayans do not display the level of homophobia that you often see in the U.S. or some S.American countries. Gay life in MVD is present, but low-key. Also, Buenos Aires is just a short ferry ride away if one wants to make a weekend trip to experience a larger, more vibrant gay community. Hope this is somewhat helpful. Tim & Bernd

Uruguay: Affordable safe short tem lodging:

Hello "Donati", We saw your post looking for short-term housing in Montevideo. We offer you our one bedroom apartment if it fits your needs and budget. You can check it out at: www.casasarandi356.com We used to live in San Francisco and now live in Vancouver, BC, but we'll likely retire to Montevideo in the coming years. For now we make our apartment available on a short-term basis to business people and potential expats like you. Feel free to email us after you visit the website. Our email is: casasarandi356@gmail.com Kind regards, Tim & Bernd

Uruguay: Connect with expats during May'08 exploratory trip:

We are a male couple (American & German) from Vancouver, Canada who will visit MVD in the second half of May'08 to explore the possibility to retire, buy real estate, etc. Would like to connect with Canadian, US, German, or other expats over coffee or a meal to hear your experiences with such a transition.
