Estonia: Renting or Buying a Home in Estonia:

Hi! A year has gone by since you first posted this, but I am just now seeing it. I can absolutely recommend a real estate agent to expats! I am a real estate agent working at RE/MAX Central here in Tallinn, and I specialize in helping foreigners and expats buy, sell, and rent real estate. Finding a good house or apartment to live in - whether permanently or temporarily - is one of the biggest things you do when you move to any country. And the language barrier and different customs alone make it that much more intimidating. I am a native English speaker who has lived in Estonia for 19 years and speak Estonian pretty much fluently. I know my job and do it well, and I can absolutely make the experience more comfortable, easier, and even downright enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoy my work and am fascinated with all of the new people I meet from all over the world - so don't hesitate to call me or send me an e-mail. I'm happy to help! brenda.mitchell@remax.ee mobile +372 56 609 883 Brenda Mitchell

Estonia: Moving To Tallinn:

Hi! I'm and American and have lived here in Estonia for the past 16 years. One of the things that still amazes me is that small children, coming home from school, ride the buses and walk home alone. I feel perfectly safe and even though I don't have children I know my friends feel that their children are safe. I'm sure it depends on which part of town that you live, and I wouldn't be careless with my children, but I think you can rest in knowing that your children are probably safer than they would be in America, or England. I speak Estonian although not perfectly, as I am not surrounded with Estonians all the time. I work from home. I do speak with my secretary daily, who does not speak English at all. I'm sure that if you are immersed in the language you will pick up what you need in no time at all. Estonians love it if you just try. As there are a small number of people in the world that speak Estonian, they are very proud of their language and proud that a foreigner would try and learn it. I can't give a report on the schools as I don't have children, but what I've heard is that they are good. Some are better than others. Maybe someone else can help you on that point. Good luck in your move to Tallinn! I think you will love it here! B.

Estonia: What is Your Neighborhood Like?:

I live in KELVINGI, which is in VIIMSI. We are selling our home that we have lived in for 5 years, and are building a new home right up the road. We love VIIMSI, and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. KELVINGI is located by the sea, with the forest on the other three sides. Our house is a 5 minute walk to the beach, the forest, etc. In Viimsi is the new Viimsi School, which has grades 1st through 12th. There is a kindergarden/daycare 3 houses away from mine, and another kindergarden right beside the Viimsi School. The International School is in the center of Tallinn, which is a 25 minute drive into town from KELVINGI. KELVINGI is a GREAT place for families! Besides the kindergarden close by, there are 3 playgrounds, a beach, lots of other families with children, and a "healthy path" in the forest with places to stop and "work out". There is also a private port down at the beach, for all of you sailors out there. There are several Canadian families, some Swedes, Americans, Estonians, Russians, etc., living in KELVINGI. Plenty of English speaking people around. It is a very sociable and friendly neighborhood, as well as being private and quiet. In KELVINGI there are a variety of houses available - a few townhouses, smaller single family homes, and also some very large homes. All of the yards in KELVINGI are large and great for playing and entertaining. It is a very safe neighborhood with no crime. My home sits 3 houses away from the security guard office, which overlooks my home. I also have a 9 ft. hedge surrounding my home. I feel completely safe when my husband travels. The children all play outdoors and ride their bikes in the streets. If you like the neighborhood feel of children selling lemonade at their lemonade stands on the street corners and people walking their dogs and stopping to say hello, then KELVINGI is for you. The price of houses in KELVINGI range from 3,5 million eek all the way up to 11 million eek. My home is selling for 3,9 million eek. There is a bus stop right at the entrance of KELVINGI so you do not need a car, but it is helpful if you do have one. The closest store is only a 5 minute drive away, as well as local restaurants, coffee shops, museums, gas stations, etc. VIIMSI also has it's own shopping center with a dry cleaners, movie rental, health food store, beauty salon, and much more. KEVINGI / VIIMSI is not in the center of Tallinn, but it is just a short drive away. It gets you out among the locals, among nature, and by the sea. It is truly a great place to live. We are not moving to a new home because there was anything wrong with our old one. We had owned our plot of land and planned for the new home before we even moved into our present house. I would highly recommend KELVINGI / VIIMSI for any family looking for a home. If you are interested in looking at my home, whether to buy or just to stop by and visit the neighborhood, you can find it here: www.kv.ee/918296 Good luck in moving to Estonia! Brenda

Estonia: using companies to buying property abroad:

I live in Estonia and I am selling my property. I have posted on international property listing websites but the only responses I have received are from scammers from Nigeria, etc. Right now the real estate market is going slowly, but is starting to turn around as prices have dropped and people are beginning to buy again. Estonia is an easy place for foreigners to invest. If you are still looking for a country to invest in property, Estonia is a good choice. And of course, my property is listed at www.kv.ee/918296, if you are still interested in investing! :-)
