About artbyjoe

hello, recently changed this profile. i am currently wanting to move to Chile. So as to find a small place with the ability to make a self sustaining farm. as far as size , i would like to wind up with 10 hectares of mixed pasture and forest. location wise, and price wise, i would like to locate in the area west of Los Muerlos. between there and the coast. ocean view would be nice. land out that way seems to be fairly cheap. that is compared with lake country land. i have several ideas for small business, but my primary focus is on gardening and small animal husbandry. small numbers, wide variety. mostly just for personal consumption. have experience with living off grid, gardening, solar power, septic systems and methane digesters.

Chile: looking for land partners:

wanting to buy self sufficient farming land in south western Chile. west of Los Muermos. we figure to be part time for the first 3 years or so. perhaps 6 mo / 6 mo. then full time. primary goal is to grow as much of our own food as possible. have experience in off grid living. we will be heading back down there in March for 4 to 6 weeks.

Chile: Crossing overland Chile to Argentina through the passes south of Mendoza' like the one east of Talca to Barriloche:

i did not know that the passes ever closed. but i am not an expert. the bus system in Chile is superb. lots of competition. low prices. quality varies with price. Argentine bus prices seemed much higher. so if you are going to Argentina and back, buy round trip ticket and save money. the passes you mentioned are all weather asphalt surfaced road.

Chile: Living in southern chile:

the price of land varies. in southern chile, the most expensive is in the towns on the lakes in the lake district. asking prices are around USD 30,000 for half a hectare a little over an acre. but this is a Gringo price. if you can find a Chilean acquaintance to help you buy, prices are much lower. prices are high there, because this is the favorite vacation spot for Chilean people. i have been online searching the area west of Los Muermos, towards the coast. have seen online prices down around USD $1,000 per acre.
