United Arab Emirates: 30 something woman wanting to make friends in Dubai:
Hi Lile. I'm about to take a job in Dubai which is both exciting and scaring me somewhat. I am an American Copywriter, working in advertising. I'm not writing to "hit on" you or make any unwarranted single guy advances. It would be really nice to hear something from someone who hasn't just been there on business for 2 days or is trying to get me over there for professional reasons (ie my American boss who is selling it as shangri-la). If you can chat with me just a bit, I would be eternally grateful. And If/when (and it's moving along rapidly) I make over there, I'd be happy to buy you a drink or dinner to repay your kindness ; >
So...
Off the cuff, are you liking it there or just weird?
I am a little confused when I read that people are having a hard time meeting people. Why is that? Is there no easy social areas? Perhaps you don't love the bar scene which I could understand as I am getting too old for meat markets myself. I was told that it's like 85% expats. Surely that should make it easy right as everyone is in your boat?
How easy was it to find a place to live?
I hope my inquiries aren't to bold. I'm sorry if I am asking too much or you don't feel comfortable as we've never met. Tell me anything you care to.
I hope you find some ladies or at least cool folks to hang out with. I would certaintly hope for the same. The thought oif not meeting people is just about the WORST thing I could imagine in a foreign land and is the primary reason I like to travel and take adventures (taking a job in Dubai) in the first place. I wish you the best of luck and hope to hear back from you.
