Global Expat Forum: Wants to relocate to Cyprus:

I am sorry to say that your chances of getting a job in the banking sector in Cyprus are slim to none. Many cypriot bank workers lost their jobs during the banking crisis a few years ago andany jobs which become available will automatically go to a Cypriot and not to a foreigner. Cypriots look after their own which is understandable.

Another example of the United States sticking their noses in other peoples business. What gives them the right to go against the EU findings.

Cyprus: moving to cyprus north or south ?:

Hi Welcome to the forum. I would recommend that whichever you choose you come for an extended holiday first and look for work before making the move. work is very scarce everywhere at the moment and though I can't speak for the North I can tell you there is a lot of unemployment in the South at the moment. Unless you have skills which are very sought after you will find it very hard to find work which pays a decent living wage.

Hi Lucky, What sort of group are you looking for? Do you have any hobbies for instance where there might be groups such as walking, geocaching, sports of any kind etc.

Cyprus: Advice for moving to Cyprus:

Hi Sam, As you have no children why not just treat it as an adventure and come over for an extended holiday to see what sort of jobs are available. There are a lot of private hospitals so you couldstart by going around them to see what the chances are of work. If you had young hildren my advice would be very different but as long s you don't burn all your bridges in the UK until you know how it will work out here you don't have much to lose. Regards Veronica

Where in Cyprus? I can recommend a good one in the Paphos area but if you live in Larnaca that won't be any good to you.

Cyprus: moving to coral bay peyia:

Hi Catherine My main concern would not be schooling but how you will cope financially if you do not have jobs to come to. Unemployment is rising here in Cyprus and wages for those who are lucky enough to have a job are very low compared to the UK. To be absolutely honest with you Cyprus is not ideal for families with school age children as the cost of schooling is high. Secondary schooling will cost up to 10K per year per child and your oldest child is too old to adapt to local schooling so would need to go to private schools. We see families many returning to the UK because they cannot afford to live here and their children suffer as their schooling has been disrupted. I know this is not what you want to hear but my advice is to make sure you have done your homework very very thoroughly before making the move.

Cyprus: Moving to Cyprus:

Hi Fiona, I think your husband will trouble finding work in the construction industry as the developers tend to hire people from eastern Europe and the far east as they will work for peanuts. That is those developers who are actually still doing any developing as things have slowed right down over the last years and many people in construction have lost their jobs.

Cyprus: Finding work and education Paphos / Pafos:

Hi ElTel, I think any advice would depend very much on knowing a little more about you. Are you single or married with children? Do you have a nest egg to see you through the first few months in case you are unable to find work? Jobs here are not easy to find and those that are there do not pay well.

As long as you don't want to live as though you are on a permanent holiday you should be OK on that budget.
