Kenya: moving to kenya:

I'm planning on moving to central Kenya in September, 2009. I will be moving with my girl friend who will be conducting research for her PhD. We plan on being in Kenya for 1.5 years. We already have housing figured out, but I'm looking for advice on obtaining a visa that will allow me to stay in the country for as long as possible. Also, I would appreciate some advice on working in Kenya. I am an engineer and have already made a few contacts but would appreciate some info on the feasibility of obtaining a work permit, etc. Thanks for your help.
