Thailand: seeking (Thai) island to hang out in - late Oct.:
Before heading up to ChaingMai to settle into for some months after my arrival 10/15, I'd like to make use of my Bangkok arrival point to head south to one or more islands. I am thinking about KO CHANG or KRABI area. Anyone have experiences in these places (or another favorite island) - to share?
My interests: sun/beach. swim, snorkle - also hiking and kayaking.
Seeking mellow area, quiet, inexpensive accomodation (250 bat or less) And how to best get there from B'kok?
Big Question: THE WEATHER!
I want sun, clear water; not squalls, flooded roads, major surf. Is there some island that can be mellow in late October, or do I need to bag the islands until (???) month?
Grateful for your thoughts, experiences. writerjoe
Thailand: Questions re: longer term (months) living in ChiangMai:
After a great visit to ChiangMai this spring, I (already retired) am looking to return in October for 4-6 months with a view towards retiring there. I am applying for retirement visa, but not sure if I will at this time, meet all requirements. If not, my understanding is that I can renew my initial visa for "indefinite" 30 day extensions, so I was not worried. But a Canadian I correspond with in CM notes an aquaintance tried to renew for 30 days, but only was granted an 11 day extension. Can any other ("yanks" ex-USA) advise on how secure processing for the 30 day extensions seems to be? Secondly, I brought back some of the fine fabrics from CM to see about exporting to shops around here. Assuming I might want to place orders from these samples, prior to leaving CM, I met with a local Thai who can be a networker between an off-shore exporter and local fabric/clothing producers and/or export shipping packers. I seem to have lost her address. Wondering if there might be any readers over there into exporting based in ChiangMai who could give me any advice on reputable local contact, or ideas on where to go to get one? And how's life in CM - these summer months? Joe S.
Cyprus: Seeking info on low cost rental/house share?:
I am interested to come to Cyprus in February/early March for up to 3 months to appraise later relocating there. For starters, I'd like to rent a room (or perhaps, small apartment) being on a limited budget. I'm a "yank" 63, in good shape, male; interests: Swimming, snorkeling, Kayaking, hiking, world music, cooking, landscape gardening. Anyone on the forum would consider house share (I'll supply solid references) or direct me in a right direction on how I might realize this? Is house sharing (or room rental) even a viable option on Cyprus? I'm pretty open on area, but think I'd prefer around Paphos (?)
