Scotland: please help and advice for 1st time in Scotland:
If you would like to live in a city I would recommend Edinburgh or Aberdeen or Inverness (very small "city").
If you hate sitting in busy traffic when you are trying to get somewhere then avoid the Glasgow/Lanarkshire areas.
The Towns I would recommend as Family- Forres - North East Scotland, good weather. Callendar near Stirling is nice. Banchory and it's surrounding small villages are very nice (Royal Deeside, West of Aberdeen) and has good schools.
If you are house hunting you can look at www.espc.co.uk for Edinburgh or www.aspc.co.uk for Abdeen or www.hspc.co.uk for Inverness.
Scotland: Moving to Aberdeen:
Aberdeen is a nice city as it's not too big and has all the amenities you would expect. The east coast of Scotland generally has more dry weather than the west. Aberdeen does get quite a lot of mist though as it's by the sea. If you don't like that then moving 10 miles inland along Deeside is enough to have better weather (Banchory/ Drumoak/ Durris) or if you don't mind being further away Aboyne is also very nice. If you want to be by the sea Stonehaven is nice small town and is commuting distance to Abderdeen but it gets a lot of mist also.
Robert Gordon's College is a good (private) secondary school. Banchory Acadamy is a very good state secondary school. If you are looking for property the best place to look is ww.aspc.co.uk and use the search facilities.
I hope this helps. (I lived in Aberdeen from 1994-2000 then in Woodlands of Durris 2005-2007)
Scotland: moving:
Aberdeen is a nice city as it's not too big and has all the amenities you would expect. There are lovely big granite appartments in the centre and larger houses on the periphery. You can walk across the city in 30 minutes. There are good air and train links and easy access by road to beautiful royal Deeside. I hope this helps. (I lived in Aberdeen from 1994-2000 then in Woodlands of Durris, a friendly Hamlet on South Deeside, 2005-2007). There are a lot of incomers to Aberdeen due to the Oil Industry and it's two Universities - University of Abdeen and Robert Gordon's University but I found the more rural places more friendly as well as having instant access to the beautiful countryside
