Some Forum Posts:

Italy: More tax info, etc:

Sorry for being off-topic, but over the past week I have been receiving two copies of every post in this forum. Is this happening to others?

Italy: No reply from real estate agents:

Italians never respond to voicemails and Italian real estate agents rarely answer emails (for all the reasons already stated). I must have been lucky dealing with the four agents I used in Puglia. All spoke some English in a region where little English is spoken. It's important to say specifically what you liked or didn't like about each property. Be sure to say what is absolutely necessary -- a particular location, a swimming pool, etc. Finally one property had my name on it, and I wasted no time. 28 months later, I have my slice of heaven as I dreamed.

Italy: Taxes After Relocating to US for Dual Citizens?:

Seeing a commercialista this week. Would like to confirm: Does Italy's wealth tax apply to funds left on deposit in IRA accounts?

Italy: Renting an Apartment before I move to Italy:

DoppioC: Does filing jointly in US impair filing in Italy? A couple wouldn't have to file separately in the US in order to determine US taxes (a credit on Italian filing) paid proportionately on an individual basis, correct?

Italy: Guidance on Banks/ATM's/paying recurring bill in US:

DoppiaC, Always offering us useful info. Thank you. You had previously said that deposits held within an IRA are not subject to the wealth tax. Might you have a reference or source for that? This is a relief to me and I am trying to convince others that this is true. Also, distributions from Traditional IRAs would be taxed by the US and then by Italy with a credit for what was paid in the US tax. Is this correct?

Italy: Taxes:

Nick, Makes sense using your Italian passport both when entering and leaving Italy. I would presume that you use your US passport when entering or leaving the US. I never used my passports consistently and now know that that's not a good practice. As a dual citizen, I should use my Italian passport when entering/leaving Italy and use my US passport when entering/leaving the US. If my understanding is faulty, please correct me.

Italy: Social Security:

I'd like to believe that the wealth tax can't touch funds residing in a 401K or IRA. Is this true?

Italy: Rental Agreement For ER Visa:

What is the deadline for tax filing in Italy?

Italy: staying in Italy less than 3 months:

DoppioCittadino, what are the rules for which passport to use with passport control. I recently bought a one way flight from the US to Italy stopping overnight in Istanbul. When I booked the flight, I used my US passport thinkiing that the flight originated there. I used a Visa I had to buy to stay overnight in a hotel in Istanbul. When I got to Italy the next day, I used my US passport consistent with the first leg of this one way journey. I reasoned that switching the passport would raise red flags. I want to do the right thing in the future, but I may be woefully unaware of the rules that govern the use of passports for dual nationals. Can you help me out with this?

Italy: Easy Greeting Cards:

Moonpig.com is great for Americans and Brits. They offer customizable (at no extra cost) greeting cards mailed from either the US or the UK, so the cards arrive quickly and inexpensively. The cost for each card is very reasonable -- no more than when shopping and sending a card from the US or UK. I have tried sending cards from Italy with ample time, but the Italian post office has failed me each time with undue cost and typical delays of two months. Posta Italiana has some good services but international delivery isn't one of them. This is just another 'patch' that makes life easier.
