Saudi Arabia: Bringing a dog to Riyadh:
I left saudi in June last year after spending two trip there (March 1998 - Oct 2002) and (Nov 2008 - June 2010). It all depends on what breed of dog you want to import and what time of year (due to adverse weather (Heat)). It is pretty straight forward but you will need someone on the Saudi side to go to the department of agriculture for you to get the import permit. My husband entered the kingdom prior to me so was able to get the papers for me. If you dont have anyone in kingdom to do the papers for you my suggestion is that you enter kingdom (minus your dog), get the neccessary permit and then have a relative or friend from home get the paperwork done thier.. .And then send your animal. It would help if i knew what country you are intending to fly from, I have flown dogs from both the UK and the USA and there is alot of issues to get sorted prior to shipment but it is simple if you have everything organised prior to starting the process.. I have a contact in the department of agriculture in the Eastern Province of Saudi who could definatley help with a DOA contact in Rhiyad. Reply back or email at: respetter@hotmail.com
Saudi Arabia: AMERICAN Seeks Employment visa from Bahrain to Saudi:
Can anyone give me any info on the following:
I am leaving Saudi soon on an exit only from Saudi (accompanied by an NOC - No Objection Cert). I may have the opportunity to come straight back with another company. Can i exit to Bahrain (where I would plan on flying from) and apply for my new employment visa through a the new company office based in Bahrain and the Saudi embassy there... Or do I need to return to the states and apply through the new company office and the Saudi embassy in the USA? Any help would be great. I have searched all embassy sites for info both Bahrain and Saudi and no info is available in regards to this..? Moving over to Bahrain and doing a turnaround there would be alot easier and obviously alot quicker.
Saudi Arabia: Buying A Car in Eastern Province..??:
Can anyone give me ANY advice on buying a good quality second hand vehicle in the Eastern Province...? Dammam, Khobar, Jubail...? Are there dealers or is everything done privatley...??? Or via other websites..??
Saudi Arabia: Pets:
email me at the following respetter@hotmail.com Put PETS Bahrain - Saudi in the subject line as your mail will come into my junk and will be easier to detect. I live in eastern province and the Minsiter of Agriculture is a friend of mine. I will fill you in on everything you need to do. The paperwork from the USA is not valid. You need to start a different process from here in the Gulf. pretty straight forward you need to get a schedule in place before you start though..!!! Look forward to hearing from you. RE
Saudi Arabia: SCHOOLS Eastern Province:
This is a message for any European, USA, Canada or UK residents thinking of moving to the Eastern Province of KSA with there kids (Khobar, Dhahran, Dammam, or Jubail). The schools they offer here are USA and UK curriculum, BUT they are international curriculum and certainly not up to par with the western world. Having lived here for 14 years I have tryed to look into the reason for the sever lack of academic structure. The staff attitudes are definatley different to those in the UK, Europe and the USA. Administration run things ALOT different to schools back home. Rules and regulations in school are , (to put it mildly) "unacceptable". Many actions that go on throughout school here would be looked upon in the western world as misconduct. Academically you can expect your child to be at the lower level of acheivement for there key stage grade at the end of a school year. Moving back to the western world after schooling here will prove, "difficult" to your child. Moving here from the western world will give your child the opportunity to test and be moved up a grade due to the academic expectations at each grade level... BE VERY CAREFULL... A childs education is the foundation of their future... Ask yourself if there are other options...? I would NEVER do it again, no matter how big the TAX FREE salary we were offered. Oh, and yes my husband feels the same...!!! From my own teaching experience back home, I know alot of teachers would be mortified at the education here (Eastern Province) Cant speak for Jeddah or Riyad.. Consider living in Dhahran or Dammam and shooling your kids in Bahrain. Fantastic oportunities for children both USA and UK currculums, great ethics and administrative/classroom management. No need for bahrain residency. If you are UK or USA resident you have a 28 period allowable to be in bahrain... But if you live in KSA you can commute daily so no need to worry. Also school fees in bahrain are cheaper than KSA... I guess there is no competition in KSA thats why the schools are still open... Oh, and UK, USA, Canadian kids will be the MINORITY when it comes to nationality ratio's in any of the eastern province schools...
Saudi Arabia: Teacher looking for other teacher contacts in Saudi:
Titti,
Think long and hard about schools in the eatern province. I have recently posted a post on schools here. (SCHOOLS Eastern Province)
If you have other options think long and hard about those FIRST...
Saudi Arabia: Boarding school for girls in saudi ? any place you know?:
Bahrain also has an awesome DOD school that accepts civilian kids. It has boarding facilities. Our son went there for 11th grade. Academics are great. Staff at school are very understanding of the living away from home aspect of the boarding kids.. If you need any advie post back and will give you all the details...
Saudi Arabia: moving to Saudi, which city is nicer: Al Jubail or Al Khobar?:
Nicer... Khobar. However If you will be working in Jubail then the drive is a drag. Early morning and afternoon traffic has become crazy here over the past 6 years. It can take any where from 1 hour to 1.45 mins to get from one to another. If you are living on a compound in Khobar then the chances are you will be on the other side of town from the Jubail highway. Hense a load more traffic to negotiate. Traffic in Khobar when work gets off is MAD..!!! Not sure if you have had any previous gulf experience when it comes to driving? imagine giving a pile of 6th graders car keys and giving them free reign on the highways..!!! There are no rules followed here when it comes to Traffic law. Jubail is an OK city. American/British school. Al Hussan INternational school. Malls, all the regular take aways and restaurants. Compound living etc... Khobar is more Metropol. you need to decide if you want to play demolition derby everyday in the car. If so then I would say Khobar beats Jubail as far as what a town has to offer. Post back if you want any specifics on either town.
Saudi Arabia: Living in Al-Khobar:
jlw,
If you are moving here to Eastern Province you need to look into the education here BIG TIME. I have spent the last 27 years in the middle east 10 in Kuwait and the remainder here in Saudi with a few back in the states. How old are your children. I have a 17, 9 and 4 year old bunch. The little ones are in school here in kingdom as I have no alternative to send them elsewhere, however, I have sent our son to a Unites States Dod boarding school in Bahrain. life for tees in kingdom is very different, as it is for little ones. If you require any in depth info into the different schools available you can post me and i will email with all the pertinent info. Think hard before you move your kids, it is a whole different ball game out here. Dont get me wrong, I love the middle East and it has become home to me but with options available I will send my kids elsewhere as they become old enough. My 17 year old returned to Saudi at 15 after spending 5 years back in the States. He hated it here immediatley and couldnt wait to get to Bahrain, much to say, he is having a blast in Bahrain and comes home on weekends unless bowling, the Mall, the movies, the water park or paintballing is arranged (non of which are available in kingdom) and then we see him at other times!!!!
Saudi Arabia: Jeddah King Abdullah Economic City:
Does anyone have any info on the new King Abdullah Economic City? About 80km north of Jeddah City Center???
My huband may concider a contract with a large company involved in the new development. I live in Jubail (Eastern Province) but have never experienced any of Jeddah B4. It will be a family married contract. I have 3 kids ranging from 4 - 17. we would be based 50km south of the new city for a while on a beach compound that we have been informed is very westernised. Apparently there are due to be 6 International schools in the new city on the King Abdullah Unversity of Science and Technology KAUST site. ANY info on the new city, its schools and its state at present who would be SOOO appreciated.
