United States: Advice on moving from Melbourne, Australia to New York City?:

I'm a BA graduate, mid career and planning to travel with 2 other girls from Australia. We're intending to eventually move to NYC to find work. However we need to know what preparation we need to undertake. We all work within advertising/media/design sector, can anyone please advise whether it's easy or difficult to find a job in this field. In addition what type of salary to expect? If you're working within print or digital media, can you please recommend the best companies to apply for? We'd also be looking for long term accommodation, where would be the most suitable location for us to reside in considering the commute to work? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
