Brazil: Businesses In Brazil = How about Corruption:
I may well be retiring to Brazil in a few years, so wondering about business prospects there; in fact, I've checked out businsses like beach pousadas and they look fine; however, I worry about the corruption, gang activities and government officials given that many states and localities have questionable laws, regs. and criminal activities - so do businessmen need to pay off local officials or local gangs? Do those experiencing business dealings have any unexpected surprises dealing with real estate and business start ups? With it's growth, Brazil can be good for business, but the crime and government intervention seems complicated and risky. Any stories to give confidence or pause???

Brazil: Private Property to Brazil:
I heard that it's getting harder to be able to import your auto to Brazil.
This was a key ingrediant for moving there - bringing household goods with you. Maybe it's wise to have addresses in adjoining countries where it's easier to import your own vehicle? With a Brazilian wife, we'd become perm residences, but I'd hate to pay double for a vehicle - I'd prefer to import my own car.
Brazil: Retired with US Social Security:
Usually, you use the US Consulate office to register to receive SS payments abroad. You might also use 2 addresses - one your state-side address. You can get auto payments to your bank account in the USA.
Let me know if you learn more, as I'll move to Brazil someday to live better for less. Dennis Phoenix AZ.
Costa Rica: Health insurance:
For Health Insurance in Costa Rica, most Latin countries have excellent private health plans that are cheap and, also, good availability to health services from what I have learned. Still, Costa Rica is a very small country and is more expensive than other choices nearby; however, unquestionably, the best country to get accepted for pre-exisiting conditions may be Uruguay since they train doctors there and offer outstanding choices. With limited income of only 1,700/mo., you may do better considering other countries with lower living costs including Panama, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Mexico unless you have savings or other resources above the pension. From my readings, Ecuador and Panama should be considered. My personal favorite is Brazil since I enjoy the culture, have a Brazilian wife and have friends there, but being a huge country it probably isn't the cheapest for most.
Brazil: living in florianopolis:
Thanks Daniel:
I enjoyed Florianaopolis when I visited many yrs. back. I plan to retire in Brazil when I am able to cash out, but that could be years. I will visit Brazil for a month soon and would like to visit Florianaoplis, Fortaleza,
Rio and S.P. for friends.
My wife is Brazilian, but we adopted three girls and now have to worry about their school which could be expensive in Brazil.
Thank you for any advise.
I want to cash out, buy in Brazil and live by the beach.
Brazil: New Forum Leaders for Brazil:
I am a headhunter specializing in computer consulting for governments like various USA States. I have been to Brazil several times and never for less than a month; also, plan to visit sometime soon. It's been awhile since I've been to
Brazil and must return to visit friends and visit potential residence sites for the future - maybe coastal areas like parts of Bahia would be of interest.
My wife I met in Campinas and we live in Gold Canyon, Arizona, suburb of Phoenix. I would like to learn about Bahia and other coastal areas of Brazil; however, I have visited many areas in the past and consider myself very knowledgeable about Brazil having been a "Brazil Nut" for so many years - I like to think of myself as part brazilian esp. in spirit.

Brazil: My dream:
If you have first hand information about Fortaleza
and the area anywhere around Bahia, I'd like to know more. I am experienced in Brazil, but
know Bahia the least outside of a few weeks in
Salvador long ago where I enjoye a great time. I hope to vist Brazil again soon and travel to potential retirement sites in Bahia; then, visit friends in the South, too.
