Ecuador: Disappointed in my findings about moving to Ecuador:

You sound like my twin. I'm a 59 year old female with a 56 year old husband. I can receive a pension at age 60 of $210 per month. If I wait till 65 I can get $290 per month. Big woopy! Don't know what my Old Age Pension will be. So I figure start the pension asap, hubby has 3.5 years before he can claim. Hope the rules don't change. Hubby was also a victim of the economic meltdown and now no longer has a career job. I went from full time to part time the day he actually got laid off. Talk about a shock. Still physically the job was too much. Anyway we are happily working part time pretending we are semi retired. We manage ok, but life is very different. No more european holidays. We are really not interested in full time retirement in Canada when the time comes. In the meantime we look at or savings and wonder if it could buy us the time till 60 and 65.... Our thought around the 180 days was to go check out another country in South America. Argentina, Uruguay perhaps. To be honest my first choice is Italy or France but the euro is too high, also hubby lived in Venezuela for 7 years and really likes the idea of South America. I'm looking forward to the replies. The only way I know so far is to put 26 k in the bank for 1 year and not touch it. If you take money out of the country you then are charged 2% to do so. Anyhow cheers to all, 24 days till Santa comes!!!

Ecuador: Where to find some things??:

Been telling my hubby for over 2 years that Cuenca needs a butcher, my son cuts meet and my other son's father in law is a butcher. They don't want to move........dammmmmmm oh well, keep on trying to find a way. Cheers all

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Maybe Ecuador?:

Hey Ila, still here in Vancouver. Still trying to win the 649 lottery so we can head out. Hubby is just not aging fast enough for any pension anytime soon!! My favorite saying is" a life lived in fear is a life half lived" I really need to get off the pot and go for it. Insanity at my work place is rife. Christmas is so in full swing. I hate retail!!!!! Also just got my kobo, I am so challenged, trying to get books from a library and free ones>>>>>>>> I need mucho cervasas on a beach. Take care all Greetings from the cold, rainy, dark side.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: BEWARE COTACACHI REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT:

There was a similar real estate deal going on the coast. Two gringos and an ecuadorian in business to sell beach lots. At one time they offered free house and pool if you put up the cash to develop the apartments etc. People did invest and now they own absolutely nothing. The gringos went away blaming the ecuadorian. Better leave it at that. Being censored with this post.

Ecuador: MORE BENEFITS OF RETIRING IN ECUADOR:

My poor mum was in hospital for almost 2 months before she died. The entire time she shared a room with 3 others, often with 2 males and one other female. We tied to get her into a private or semi private room but with no luck. It was the most stressful time of her life, no peace at all. Finally a doctor decided she should be allowed to die peacefully and transferred her to a hospice. She died peacefully a week later. We live 30 minutes outside of Vancouver BC. Our health care system is struggling.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Mirador San Jose- Playa San Jose:

I read a lot of blogs. One I like is South Of Zero. Mary has a huge blog role that she posts daily updates from. Also Mary find new blogs and adds these in.... So the other day a new one was posted. So we googled the above site. It seems huge and very ambitious. Kinda wonder how all the services will factor in...... Just wondering if any others have seen this and what their take is as well. After all Coco Beach Village took a beating here on this site as well as yahoo group site. So I thought why not throw it out there. See what people feel are the positives or the negatives. Cheers.
