Colombia: Event production & management in Colombia:

Hi, I run an events production company in the UK specialising in outdoor concerts and festivals. I have highly specialised equipment and lighting that I haven't seen anywhere in Colombia and believe my companies expertise has the potential to do quite well. My wife is Colombian and misses home (can't blame her) so we're considering moving back permanently, but to honest neither of us is particularly fluent in Colombian business and licence procedures. My question is; should landowners be willing to hire me land on a single weekend basis, how hard is it to obtain licences to operate? I'm not talking huge concerts with headline acts, just smaller intimate (200 people) gigs, film festivals, weddings etc. In the UK we a 'Temporary Event Notice' which is approved by the council and Police for a nominal £30 and we can operate freely with up to 600 guests. Do the Colombian authorities require such a thing? Is it more/less complicated? Alcohol licencing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Brazil: Friends & accommodation in Rio?:

Hi all, I'm a 35 year old UK man running away from the UK's weather, taxes and monotony. I hope to be moving to Rio in March to start my new life and experience everything Brazil has to offer. What i am finding trouble with is the cost of apartments. It not that i dont have enough money, its just that rents are as expensive as London and it seems a terrible waste seeing as i hope to spend a lot of time outside! Is there anyone on here who would consider renting a room to me for a few months while i find my feet, settle in, learn Portuguese and decide if i will stay for the long term future? My budget is between $300 to $500 a month. I'm a sensible, good natured, considerate, practical, intelligent, hardworking, great humoured guy and very easy to live with. Sorry if this looks like a CV, but i'm sure you know where i'm coming from. High speed internet is vital for me as i'm a currency trader, but that's all i really need, but if you live near a surfing beach that would be the cherry because i've surfed for 20 years and plan to surf a lot there. Even if you don't have the room i would appreciate any advice you may be able give regarding room rental somewhere. Thanks for reading and who knows ........... PS ... i'm also a qualified surf instructor and would be very happy teach you and your kids if you have them!
