Mexico: TV in Mexico:

We are from the US and live in Mexico City. We have SKY, but there is no access to local channels in the US. We can only get CNN, Fox News, Bloomberg, and America Network which has canned or edited broadcasts of some of the US TV shows like Oprah and the CBS Evening News. I have not seen any Canadian channels at all. I think the only way you could get that service is to buy your own satellite service.

Mexico: Adjusting to Expat Life in Mexico:

When you moved to Mexico, what was the most difficult part of settling in there? How much difficulty did you have with culture shock in Mexico? Not much, I had lived in Caracas Venezuela and although the countries are very different they do have their similarities as well. I am spoiled by the housekeeping and childcare help I can find for very little money compared to the US. What would be the best, single piece of advice you'd give to an expat (or soon to be expat) in Mexico? Learn the language. Adapt, Adapt, Adapt, yes you will wait in long lines for poor service, yes the traffic in Mexico City is a nightmare, yes you need to take certain precautions regarding safety.

Mexico: Location choices:

Drsooz, in MX City it is very important to live and work in close proximity because of the traffic problem. Would need more information regarding at least your husband´s work location in order to advise you more.

Mexico: What is Your Neighborhood Like?:

MEXICO CITY - INTERLOMAS NEIGHBORHOOD Nearby schools? International schools? Westhill Santa Fe, Westhill Carpatos, Colegio Peterson Do many expats live in the area? Yes, but not many Americans, we have met families from Spain, Argentina, Korea, Japan Activities for families or single expats? Interlomas is for families not singles. We participate in activities where we live (apartment, gated community with lots of ammenities), and also through our son´s school. Proximity to city or areas where most expats work? It is far, it takes me an hour to get to work - I work on Insurgentes. Typical housing (sizes, costs, yards/no yards, etc.) There is a selection of houses, townhouses and apartments all in gated communities. We have a three bedroom apartment in a nice community. My Company pays $3,000 USD a month for the apartment. Parks and recreation areas? Nonexistent Nightlife and restaurants? There are some bars and restaurants in the area. Safety and crime issues? Feels pretty safe, the only issue I have had is with the municipal police asking for a "bite" (mordida) Do you need a car? Yes definitely. Basic amenities? There is alot of shopping nearby, or the mall in Santa Fe is about twenty minutes away.
