Luxembourg: Adjusting to Expat Life in Luxembourg:
I found the most difficult part was the language barrier. I wouldn't do some things or ask some questions simply because I didn't know how and was a bit timid.
I love different cultures and meeting people so I did not find this at all a problem. In fact, I found many people to be extremely helpful in offering advice/themselves/information to make it easier for me.
The best piece of advice I can give an expat is to expect that things are done slower here. Once you accept that, it makes things much easier. It took me 3 weeks to get a pin no when I lost mine for my bank account. 3 Weeks! In NY, it takes about 1 minute on line. This is just one of the many examples of how differently Lux works compared to other countries simply because it is small enough to be able to work like that.
I hope this was helpful if not a bit late.
Take care, Purvi
Luxembourg: What to do in Luxembourg?:
Hi Farrah,
How are you? I am an American who moved to Lux for work fr NYC about 2 yrs ago. The lifestyle here is very laid back but there are a few things you should prepare for:
all stores close here by 6pm weeknights (stores)
all bars close by 1am
all stores are closed on sundays
The above have exceptions but not many.
It is really easy to meet people here b/c alot of them are like you-expats. Learning some french is a good idea but not mandatory. You could get by. I hope this helps a little. If you have more questions, you can send me an email at pshah1016@yahoo.com. Let me know when you are coming and I would be happy to meet you for a drink and help out. Take care, Purvi
Luxembourg: Looking for a place to live..:
Hi, I am an American living in Luxembourg who has to move by May 1 2009. Does anyone know of someone either looking for a roommate or knows of a place to rent? Many thanks, Purvi
