Panama: "Safest" Area to Live in Panama:
Try Altos del Maria above Coronado & next to El Valle. It's a gated & beautifully natural. For us it is perfect--cool & quiet & great. But, everyone has their own opinion.
Panama: Suggestion on small rural community.:
Also check out Altos del Maria (above Coronado) -- some of the higher elevations are very cool and comfortable and very beautiful and rural. Some folks think its too rural, but we love it.
Panama: Finding rentals in Panama help:
Try AirBNB for places el Valle de Anton & altos Del Maria. They are just up the mountain from Coronado. Coronado is where we shop living in the mountains there.
Panama: Mountain living:
Also consider Altos del Maria (close to El Valle & Coronado). It is a gated community with a mix of expats and Panamanians.

Panama: Nature Lover:
Consider stopping by Altos del Maria (up in the mountains above Bejuco and Coronado. My personal opinion is that it is beautiful, natural and quiet, but you are only 30-40 minutes from town and some locations have views of the Pacific. Lots of hiking trains, waterfalls, Audubon bird sanctuary, etc., with plenty of room between you and your neighbors to be friendly, but not imposing. Just go look...its worth the trip up the hill.

Finally, someone I can agree with totally...
Panama: best location in panama:
Also consider the mountain area of El Valle and the surrounding communities like Sora and Altos del Maria. Altos gets a bad rap from Boquete expats and I really can't figure out why...but I prefer this area way more than that area, any day. Its prettier, it has a much better 'ambiance' as far as natural beauty with rivers and clean water, its more rural, has beautiful cool temps year round, and it is close enough to local beaches and a decent sized town (Coronado) plus it is a little more than an hour to Panama City. Great medical care and close to the big city hospitals for big problems. Just don't miss stopping here and visiting for a day or two. At least you can get your own prospective on it.
Panama: The perfect place in Panama:
It is a shame...however, it was same way in the USA in the 40's and 50's when I was growing up. Until they started 'preaching' at us and set up monetary fines for littering. I have seen it all over the Caribbean and Central and South Ameriaca, too. No one is immune. If you go to see the cliff divers in Acapulco Mexico, just look over the edge of the cliff and notice the trash dump it has become...as well as along the highways (either side), Sad that some so disrespect our earth.
Panama: Feb Trip to Coronado:
I really don't understand why Coronado always get such a bad rap... It is not any worse or better than any other towns in Panama--but does have a lot of conveniences. It has homes, as well as condos...and it is about 30 min from El Valle, Sora and Altos del Maria (if you want a little cooler climate). And, about 1 hour from PC. I think it's one of the better places in Panama (my personal opinion).
