Philippines: Shopping in Tagaytay for American food, TV, Internet:

Santi's is the name of the very expensive deli, and as you correctly say they do not have much in stock, Manila is the best, but you can buy decent bread in Robinsons at the stand as you walk in, and also their is an Italian restaurant in tagaytay called antonios restaurant, which also sells wonderful ciabatta bread, they would be worth looking at.

Philippines: marrige:

Even if you start a company or a corporation, all these still have to have 60% Philippine ownership. so they always have the upper hand. All these tricks have been tried and tested, and all lost. So forget about trying, you will lose it. John

Philippines: Toxic Expat Filipinas:

It also happens here with the Filipinas when they return to live here, they are showing off. Its the village mentality, they love gossip, and if there is none, then they exaggerate or make it it up. Its a syndrome type, and where I come from in the UK, we say they wear fur coats, but no knickers.

Philippines: Term Life Insurance:

He cannot sell without his wife being present and counter signing. In fact his presence is not necessary, his name could be on the papers, but it means nothing, its the wife/partner who is the real owner. John

Philippines: What the Philippine ExpatExchange Forum is about and what it is not:

I was being polite, to the rubbish you submitted, a foreigner cannot, I repeat cannot own land of any description in the Philippines, unless he is a Philippine citizen. Any lawyer and other so called experts, are talking rubbish, and probably after your money. Can we move on, as this is getting boring. John

Philippines: Moving to Cagayan De Oro:

Yeah the best would be the internet, only you cannot depend on it, maintainence is not so good, also they are getting very strict on the amount of usage, I pay for a 2mg line, but I am not allowed to upload and download combined more than a total of 1 gig. So if you want watch a streamed movie, it will drop after a while. Its not a dropped line, but severely reduce to about 0.5 mg for the rest of the day. And all the services do this, though they do advertise their lines as "unlimited". Many are complaining about it, even a Senator has asked for about this, but he was ignored, its called the Fair Use Clause, but basically its so that they can get sell more customers onto already oversubscribed lines. John

Philippines: UPDATE on Pleaseee give me the Good Oil:

There has been a law issued to say that hospitals cannot hold you until the bill is paid, but this is blatantly ignored by the establishments.

Philippines: Drama Drama Drama!!:

When will you learn?? you had the bad experience and now your thinking about a 3rd time?? Move on man.

Philippines: permanent resident:

It appears to be forgotten, but, the Balikbayan visa is only available when you arrive at the emigration section in the airport, Your wife must be with you, it is not retrospective. John
