Some Forum Posts:

Ecuador: Animal importation:

Does anyone have any info on agricultural animal importation? I want to introduce the Saanen dairy goat to Ecuador if not already there.

Ecuador: New to Ecuador:

One thing to consider when driving in the Andes . The weather late in the day can make the roads very dangerous and at night impossible. The clouds come in as a dense fog and if you run off the road its a 3000' drop. I see too many crosses along side of the roads with non Latin names! Try a plane, bus or taxi for that few days.

Ecuador: high-speed or DSL internet access in Ecuador::

I understand that you can now get Internet through the electrical network of Ecuador and it works quite well . Try this link :http://www.electronet.net.ec/

Ecuador: Shipping your Car to Ecuador:

You should really check the Cars produced in Ecuador first. They are really reasonably priced. The new "buy Ecuador" may have changed the cost basis. Also I believe the local cars are built for the local roads better. I have been going to Ecuador for over 25 years and have family there. This year when my family came they preferred the cars built in Ecuador for price and quality. Also driving a big Ford does not exactly help you blend in!

Ecuador: 10 Tips for Living in Ecuador:

I have been going to Ecuador on a nearly annual basis since 1982. I married a Quitena and have been happily married since then. We own a home out in the countryside in a very small village. Never been robbed or had any problems in Ecuador and plan to retire there next year. My advise id quite simple : respect the local customs just as you would expect folks to do in your own country. Don't expect the "smooth" life we have in the more developed countries or get upset when things go a little slow. I often find myself "forgetting" similar problems here when I am there. And please leave your arrogance and feelings of superiority at home. I can usually spot a "gringo" a mile off by their rudeness and contempt to the locals! Viva Quito Viva Ecuador!
