Ireland: Visiting Ireland !:

Layers, good raincoat and waterproof walking shoes. leave umbrella at home. Be sure to find Trad session, too. Star Wars fan-just learned Skellig Michael was in some of filming, but planning needed to make that pilgrimage.

Ireland: Buying a car:

A few years back I had great difficulty finding car insurance as ex pat in Ireland. My car was an automatic Subaru which the insurance companies viewed as a boy race car!! Quinn finally insured me. I had statement from American insurance showing no claims for 5 previous years. Not certain that helped. Our bigger problem was getting a drivers license as Ireland had only three levels-learner, Irish renewal and Euro exchange. As Americans we only fit the learners category. Hopefully things have changed.

Ireland: Safety concerns for mother/daughter bus/train/walking vacation:

Since you said your traveling at a slow pace and not the American whistle stop then a month will let you stop for a "cuppa" along the way. Airbnb is another option to check into housing. Plus you live with a family and personally get to know them. Sadly if you stay in high tourist areas, you'll have Internet access but if you go to the isolated beauty of Ireland then it could be an issue. But it appears that you're only using public transportation, so, getting to the back roads would require a car either rental or hired driver, or backpacking. If you're interested in seeing castles then check out OPW-office of Public works. They have a discount card, but again getting to some of those places with public transportation would be a challenge. There is also Northern Ireland-Belfast you could visit. Bus goes from Dublin to Belfast daily. Also check into flying into the 3 airports for best rates. Dublin on east coast and Shannon on west. There is also Cork airport that is regional to Europe with daily flights from heathrow to Amsterdam. You could take few days in a connecting airport to see those sights. Planning via Internet will make trip successful.

Ireland: Approval to stay:

You can leave the country for a day (fly to Uk via Ryann air!) start your 90 days over unless approved for longer stay etc.

Ireland: Temporary Move to Ireland:

Not certain if anyone told you of Daft. ie on Internet and look under lettings. Might be able to connect with an agent who could help. The areas you listed aren't as populated as others such as Dublin, Belfast or Cork so probably won't get too much input from this site.

Ireland: Moving a cat from the US:

I can't actually speak to the cost of transporting a pet into Ireland as it was part of our relocation package. Only specific airlines can transport and must go thru Dublin airport. Search pet passport into Ireland from non eu countries. Ireland is rabies free. Pet has to be tested for rabies and implanted with a micro chip plus quarantined for 6 months which you can do stateside versus having them quarantined by Irish goverment. So now that I've written what we had to do a few years ago, I remember that they were talking of changing the process for countries with low incidence of rabies. So you really need to search the process. I think you can organize the cats shipment via airline yourself which should be cheaper but be certain to follow process.

Ireland: Drug prices:

The healthcare system in Ireland offers free medications with a medical card and "at cost" or other options. Cost depends on what category you are in.

Ireland: Relocating Dublin/American daughter Secondary school:

For the 16 year old need to be aware of the learning cert and leaving cert which are tests taken to determine what professional study/degree and university one can attend in Ireland. Parents often get tutors and exam is extremely stressful. Plus given only once.

Ireland: Selling car-County Cork:

I have a 2006 automatic Subaru that I will be selling in Novemeber. If anyone is interested please let me know!

Ireland: Relocation Help:

I'm sure you will have to show some proof that you have a legitimate income base. Yes, when the sun is shining Ireland is brilliant, but sadly it doesn't shine as much as needed!
