Nepal: Help - Lumbini Academy:

Yes, I've heard of this school, and yes, that's a reasonable tuition for a student. There are cheaper schools, too, but in any case, you'll be doing good by supporting a school. It's a real challenge for kids in Nepal to get an education.

Nepal: International schools OUTSIDE central KTM?:

We're an expat family living out of town, but may need to move to Kathmandu or Pokhara in search of western-style international schooling for our son, who is ready to start 1st year schooling. Nepali system schools just don't work for him. Unfortunately, we only know of international schools in the heart of KTM and Pokhara, and we are committed to living OUT of town, or at least on the edges, for our health and health of mind. Are any of you aware of any international or western-style schools on the edges of either city or even better in smaller places? i'll be so surprised if anyone says "yes" ! Ora

Nepal: Work visas for volunteers:

I'm planning to bring my family to Nepal and work as a volunteer, most likely for one of the many little local NGOs. Is it really hard or easy for them to arrange a work visa for me (and thus for my family)? Who is good at such things? Who can help? Or is it a real hassle? Should I instead sign up as a student at the university, and do a research project that is based on NGO service? I'm actually in my 40s, so I assume they won't accept me at the immigration office as a 'student'. Or can one actually keep extending the tourist visas beyond the time they say in the official literature (6 months per calendar year max).?

Nepal: advice on setting a new house in Ktm:

Bik, You seem knowledgeable about real estate.... Can you recommend a particular realtor? I'm looking at buying or renting in the KTM Valley (but up in the hills beyond Sundrajal or Nagarkot, when I move there. I'm hoping to setup a small B&B/lodge. Do you know anything about the rules on doing such things, or anyone, like a recommendable lawyer/legal secretary who could help sort that out? It's with the intention of finding a village on those hills where some locals WANT to setup a trekking lodge, but haven't had the money. I'd do it as an investor with a co-op style organization, so that I those living there permanently get the main benefit. Do you know of anyone who has done something like that, or any trekking company that might be seeking investors for such a thing?

Nepal: real estate in nepal:

Ginners, So, did you retire there, and did you start a hostel? It's exactly my fantasy, too.

Nepal: Moving to Nepal:

Brenda, How'd you manage to buy land? I thought there's a Nepali law that only Nepali nationals can own land? I had thought all expats must rent? Can you recommend a particular realtor, or whoever helped you find and buy? I'm looking at buying or renting in the KTM Valley when I move there. I'm hoping to setup a small B&B/lodge. Do you know anything about the rules on doing such things, or anyone, like a recommendable lawyer/legal secretary who could help sort that out?
