Bahamas: Relocation Canada - Bahamas:

Hi! I am currently in the process of moving to join my fiance. This is what I have figured out so far. In Nassau it is best to find a place on PI or on the west of the island like Sandyport. 1-2 bedroom condos with nice furniture run about 2,000 to 3,000 per month in the nicer areas. My fiance lives in Sandyport and we both really like it there. Sam Colby with Jack Isaacs Realty Company, Ltd is a fantastic Realtor who will help you find a place. For medical coverage I used Global Insurance. The CEO is EXTREMELY helpful and walks you through all the details of international health coverage. www.globalinsurancenet.com As mentioned by the more seasoned expats, the cost of living is much higher. Food is very expensive and the variety is slim. Gas is also very expensive! The night life is great! It is very easy to meet people and for the most part, I think people are very friendly. I know that crime is somewhat of an issue, but it is easy to figure out where the safer zones are. I am only having difficulty with the job part. If your girlfriend wants to work, I have found it very hard. I have been trying for almost a year now. For Banking, I think Scotia Bank is a Canadian Bank you can use. Do you have SKYPE? I would be happy to keep sharing my findings. My official move is August 25th.

Bahamas: Expat Exchange:

I am just curious...is there a place where expats who are moving out of Nassau and who want to sell items such as cars, furniture, etc.. advertise these items for expats who are moving in (other than the newspapers)? Does anyone have recommendations for purchasing a car there? For those of us who are following spouses or fiance's to Nassau...if we cannot find a job, are their groups of activities that we can join? Also, does anyone know of summer programs for children around age 9 that address ocean conservation or marine life? My son is all about the ocean and I would like to get him involved in summer educational activities. Much thanks for all the information!

Bahamas: Working in the Bahamas:

I have read in many places that teachers are needed in the Bahamas, however, even though I have a doctorate and could fill a need there, I am finding it difficult to get hired. Does anyone have recommendations?

Bahamas: 10 Tips for Living in Bahamas:

Hi Betsy, I am moving in August to live with my fiance. He is there on a work permit. I have tried to find a job, but to no avail. If I am living with him and depending on him financially, what considerations for immigration, driving, banking (for bills in the states) etc. must I take into account?
