Ecuador Welcome Forum: Any case in which a B.C. to have apostille ?:
Whether for cedula or any purpose, is there a necessity for birth certificate...
.... to have an apostille ?
.....or to be otherwise notarized before leaving the states (presumably a notary in the state where the B.C. was issued ) ?
..... to be "certified" with a state side Ecuador consulate ? If so, notarized good enough ? ...or with apostille ?
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Qtn re.Cedula and Sponsor Visa please:
CEDULA....
Is ALL that one needs post-issue of a resid'l visa a B.C.in order to get a Cedula ?
I have never found an official source with cedlula requirements. I don't see it at the gov't source itemizing all the visas. Any one have an official source ?

SPONSOR VISA....
11. "Original documents justifying the kinship, birth certificate or updated marriage certificate that should be legalized or apostilled by the Ecuadorian Consulate in the country of origin."
http://cancilleria.gob.ec/sponsor-visas-9-i-9-ii-9-iii-9-iv-9-v/?lang=en
So this is to be run through an Ecuador consulate in the states before departing for Ecuador ?
SPONSOR VISA
12. "Notarized copy of the last Tax Rent declaration indicating that the sponsor has economic incomes above $1.000 USD American Dollars."
What is a tax rent declaration ?
Ecuador: Help cell phones:
ranyanez should read the very recent posts on this subject just in the last week or two. But these posts here about say it all.
It may be fair to say, too, if a quad band GSM is bought, it will cover the four GSM bands in S. America is what one post stated. Still an inexpensive phone. Perhaps the quad band in not necessary for Ecuador, and I don't know where in S. America it is applicable.
I STILL don't know what a dual SIM card does to a phone. Many of the phones I have researched that qualify for the subject of this thread do not not have dual SIM cards. However, it would be nice to know what capability it brings.
Ecuador: Myth or reality: worst time to visit Ecuador:
This is a ...To What Degree ? question....
1. Lent season 40 days before Easter: I have only seen this once on a site: Travellers are more challenged to travel and visit inside Ecuador during the 40 days of Lent. Strangely, it was characterized as the celebration/festive season ! Public transportation becomes more crowded or strained....air, buses, highway travel with affected prices. Accomodations and restaurants tend to be more booked and prices are higher. Other public use categories are similarly effected. Does this period for any reason tend to move the crowd meter...more locals and foreign vacationers ?
2. Two HIGH SEASON periods have been described on many sites roughly corresponding to the U.S. time of school being out and a few weeks just before Christmas through a few weeks after New Year. (Do children of Ecuador have similar time out of school which tends to be family vacation time ?) Does this period of mid-year become noticably evident in travel and vacation categories ?
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Coastal cities to live:
I am not trying to be cute here. "Reasonable price" is always from the perspective of each individual. And the phrase implies there are COMPARATIVES involved. Between us individuals, we have different benchmarks we use as points of reference. Let's say we agree coastal Ecuador is reasonable compared to coastal California. Lets say coastal Ecuador is less reasonable compared to inland locations. Folks who don't know what YOU are comparing-- what is in your mind-- don't know how to serve you with an answer.
OK...maybe you are asking for comparison between between coastal locations ? They come in all sizes and all different levels of quantity and quality of contents. How can one answer your question when no two locations, even if exactly the same population can be compared ? Exact population locations can vary in infrastructure, schools, amenities, crime, micro-climates, and on, and on.
These things matter when asking which cities can you live at a "reasonable price." Let's say we totally ignore the COMPARATIVE mind set. Many--including possibly you--initially don't consider the quality of life issues I cited and only think in absolute dollar term comparisons. Is it cheaper to live here rather than there ? If HERE is cheaper than THERE, it is more reasonable to these folks. That would be much easier to answer your question. No variables involved. Only, "What takes less money out of my pocket ?"
Let's go back to comparatives. In the science of economics, an individual's likes and dislikes are ignored. An economist would answer your question using the "Efficient Market" approach. He would replace your word "reasonable" with the "efficient market" comparison between cities. In this way, he can compare big cities to little cities and big villages to little ones, as long as there are no economic DISLOCATIONS that affect the efficiency inside of a city. Think corruption in government, think political leadership incompetency, think of the sudden finding of shale deposits of oil and gas that can be extracted easily that makes a location an overnight boom town. If there are no economic dislocations (there always are and economists have sophisticated methods to attempt to dampen the skew effect), the economist looks at each location (population of any size) and an enormous amount of living variables. For each variable, he will measure it on a scale against a standard number (par if you will). A variable will fall short or above the standard. He will also give a Weight (a factor) to each variable he will multiply that factor's score with (called a weighting). He will add the weighted score of each varible to come up with a total score. Compare scores of each city against each other. This is how you get annual survey report of most livable cities.
Are you willing to pay more (more expensive to live in terms of absolute dollars coming out of your pocket) in a city that has a higher score than another city ?
What about real estate prices ? The economist will take comparable locations between cities....upscale neighborhoods compared to upscale neigborhoods in othe cities. What is the the price per square feet for residential in each city ? .... for retail stores between each city....for industrial areas between each city.
If an individual can see the result of such scoring, such that real estate prices in one city appear to be close to other cities with an overall score between cities being close to each other, than that is about as reasonable as you can find.
If an individual can see the result of such scoring, such that real estate prices of a city appear to be noticeably low inside of a relatively high scoring location compared to other high scoring locations, you have good value.
_____________________________________________________
So for you, not an economist, what are you to do ?
In lieu of an economist scoring locations on the Ecuador coast with results available to you (unlike commercial and governmental entities that have that capability) you are left to do your own scoring. Most importantly you should pay attention to those variables most important to you, ranking them in priority to you. Simple: You will score each location on a 1 to 10 scale for quality of weather that suits your way of looking at weather (let's say a location will have your 8 score of satisfaction with 10 being the highest possible); then multiply it against a factor (let's say 10, the highest place on your priority list). Good schools for children receive a 7 on your scale for quality on a scale of 1 to 10 for quality in that same location for you. In your priority ranking because you have no kids, but you know a well schooled location is important in a big way to sociological health and economic health to the location you give it a 7 in your priority ranking. Do this with a number of categories that matter for you. Use the same categories, priority rankings, and methods of scoring each variable. You are now doing a crude but similar quantifying way as an economist. Ben Franklin who did similar pros and cons on a subject would be proud of you. In the end, it forces you to apply disciplined analytics to prevent emotion running away with you.
The biggest mistake people probably make in relocating is allowing their emotions get ahead of their sky tips. Be honest, be disciplined, to bring some semblance of reason to your choice.
Ecuador: Applying simultaneously pension and professional:
What are the odds of applying for both pension driven and professional (degreed) driven Residential visa simultaneously or staggering the submittal of applications a few weeks from each other. ?
I understand one may have to wait 2 months for the visa to have to be approved. What if the pension one were to have a hold up due to applicant having to make up for some deficiency/s in order to make the application more perfect ? If the professional application were to be processed at the same time as the pension one, and the professional one came through without additional fuss required by the applicant, one would not have to put up with fuss to make pension one more acceptable.
If not allowed to apply for both simultaneously, what if the first one were held up because of deficiency ? Could the other one then be applied for with hopes it would make it through ? Problem would be if this were permissible (and why not ?), the second one may not be approved by the time the 3-months expired on the passport (implied tourist visa)..
Perhaps the two could be applied for by staggering the second one a few weeks after the first one, and if it would be helpful, the second one applied for in a different city than the first one.
I am just trying not to not face what could be a next to impossible fix to the first one requiring the fix to occur in the U.S. while the applicant is in Ecuador.
Ecuador: Manglaralto/Olon:
jkjoking.......If you wish, stay in close touch with me as I will be doing exactly the same. We expect to be in Quito in early April to apply for residential visa. While it is being processed, we expect to be examining the same places and others on the coast north and south of Bahia.
You can PM me . If you do not know how that works, look at the top of the page for PM that will provide a template for you to send your message. This web site does not maintain messages. Your message will go to my email address. I strongly suggest in your email to me, for you to provide your email address for me to transmit to. This way we can better keep a history of our emails to each other.
Taking the time to network when having the same objectives is powerful. Also, the more you share./exchange with someone, the more you get back in resources, tips, and things to be careful of. I assure you I will do that with anyone of a like mind.
I know of no locals for guides, but if you PM me, I can give some tips on how to find them.
(We went down the coast with overnight stops two years ago, our first exploration into Ecuador.)
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Wife's visa satus should husband die ?:
I expect to receive a Residential visa based on my pension. My wife will get her visa based on her dependency. Should my untimely demise occur soon after, and she wishes to remain liivng in country, will she be required to submit an application for Residential visa by way of any of the existing avenues that she could be qualified for ?
Ecuador: best time to fly:
USNseabee...
How restricted were you for selection of carrier ?
Ecuador: 12-IX Visa required for (profess'l) Res'l Visa ?:
Casadecuenca..... Do you still think the 6-mos visa is in excess when going for the pension driven Residential Visa ? You posted that Dec 7. Would it be fair to say without the 6-mos visa, one would have to be "pretty put together" with their material submitted for the Residential ?
Also, I believe I saw the 6 mos visa IS required to be one's status when submitting for the professional (degree) driven Residential visa ( ? ) If so, would this be due to longer processing time ?
