Ivory Coast: Mixed Couple Moving to Ivory Coast:

Maybe your collegue didn't know how much and who to pay? ;) all can be sorted out very fast as long as you pay to those who are responsible for those papers making. I think the real problem for you will be finding a well paid job, for your gf will be language barrier and also finding something to be occupied with and getting used to african lifestyle since she will have to interact with your family a lot, I guess. Apart from that, everything should be ok. Here you can find some crazy mix like lebanese+russinans, chinese+nigerians, french+ivorians... etc etc etc.

A very nice idea! I am totally for it!

Ivory Coast: Need Information:

Hello Chaku, there are several areas here in Abidjan. The rent would depend on the area you will be living in of course. Here you have Cocody, Zone 4, Rivera and Marcory. The choice would depend on your job location. For example the 2 bedroom apartment in Zone 4 would cost you no less than $500 a month which is minimum. In Cocody it will be cheaper, there you will be able to get the same for $350. 2. As for us, we are a young couple living in Zone 4, we spend no less than $1200 a month including rent, bills, food, internet, gym, going out once a week (not including petrol, mobile). Hope this information will be usefull. Best regards, Tamara

Ivory Coast: Used car:

Hello! Unfortunatly we are not selling ours but you may find some announcements about selling a second hand cars in big supersmarkets on information desk which is just next to the section where you normally deposit your stuff. Taxes are really expensive but you can negotiate with them. I normaly ask the locals how much they would pay to go from point A to point B and this is the money I usually pay to a taxi driver which can be half from what the machine would count. Can I ask you, what kind of job did you find? Cos I am trying to get one and my French is already like intermediate level, but it just doesnt work. There are lots of people here who are looking for job, maybe we should share our experience of how to get a job being an english speaker? Thanks in advance, Best regards, Tamara

Ivory Coast: New, need friends and work:

Hello there! Once again, welcome to Abidjan! To find a job in a newspaper wont be easy without knowing French. You may apply for the position in the UN, they may have some openings for english speaking expats. In my previous posts I have put some links of the schools in the area where you live and where you can apply for the teaching position so as the website of the university where you could attend the French classes with the group. Or you can get a tutor for 30.000-35.000 cfa a month but that one wont be very professional. Ask your neighbours, they defenatly know someone who teaches french or would like to give you classes.

Ivory Coast: just arrived - vets in Abdijan??:

hi Pipistrelle! Welcome to Abidjan! There are some regular expat meetings, one is hash which i never attended.... Every time I want to they always chose the location which is difficuly to get to. There is a French version of Hash, thats for French speaking and it happens on Saturday of each month. Those who attended say its more fun since there are more people. And the other one is the Wednesday morning tea which Silviya has mentioned in other posts about. As for the vet nursing job... I could only speak about the regular nursing job which you would find in some hospitals and would be paid something line 400.000 cfa a month. This is the info i got from one of my friends. Enjoy your stay! Best regards, Tamara

Ivory Coast: Information Required - Medianes Services:

Dear all, Please read the previous posts. There is no such company as Mediane services in Abidjan. This is a scam, do not deal with them at any circumstances. Cheers, Tamara

Ivory Coast: CPA jobs at Ivory cost:

Dear Jitarwal! Sorry, but I could only answer the 2 last questions since i have no clue about the first 2. To live a good lifestyle here you would probably need around 700000-800000cfa, wchich is something like 1500$ a month. This will include house rent, electricity and water bills, food, going out every week but depends on where, gym and internet. I did not include the telephone bills and petrol. The good areas to live in are Zone 4, Marcory, Riviera, Cocody. You should choose the one which is the nearest to your place of work. Hope this will help! Cheers, Tamara

Ivory Coast: general info for family:

Dear Ashie, Plz, find the link to the International Community school of Abidjan:www.icsa.ac.ci there you will be able to get all the info about the school. As for the medical aid.... Not sure. My friends are having 1-2 years old kids and they are absolutely dissapointed with the local hospitals and the doctors... no matter what nationalities they are... So maybe you will meet someone at school who could recommend you some really good doctors, but myself i dont know any :( As for Rivera area, its absolutely gorgeous and you will love it. Its safe, calm and just nice! Bienvenue a Abidjan! Best regards, Tamara
