China: Editing/writing job opportunities in Beijing or other bigger cities?:
Hi,
My name is Sapna Nayyar, I am an Indian-Canadian woman currently working for a Beijing government publication, Beijing Review (a weekly newsmagazine). Since my one-year contract is coming to an end in 3 months (July 9 -- same day my visa here expires, which I must renew before that), and I'm not renewing it, I am now looking for a new job in which I can edit and/or write, preferably news and/or articles on other subjects e.g. culture, society, entertainment -- basically, a journalism-related job that requires native English speakers and doesn't care if you don't know Chinese (my Chinese is very limited). I would like to remain in Beijing, but I would also be open to journalism-related opportunities in Shanghai or any other part of China, preferably a cosmopolitan if smaller area (Ideally, I'd prefer a place that's used to foreigners and single-woman friendly. And the reason I'm emphasizing journalism jobs is that I have a journalism background, and the only teaching experience I have is tutoring one-on-one. But I'm also open to corporate communications/PR jobs that emphasize editing and writing and need native English language skills only.)
I love this country and would like to spend another year here. So if anyone knows of any relevant opportunities, please e-mail me at: s5nayyar@netscape.net
China: Oh, by the way...:
Hi,
You must be sick of me by now :) so I'm going to cut to the chase:
I forgot to mention where I live:
Beijing, China. I'm the lady still looking for more English-speaking expat friends and Beijing is where I'm looking for them. Any bored young expat Beijingers out there? Please help me before I die of loneliness/alienation!

China: Still looking for English-speaking expat friends:
Hi again,
My name is Sapna Nayyar and I had posted a message on this board once before but got only one reply off-list so I'd like to post my message once again. I am Indian-Canadian and 31 years old, working for a government publication. I have been here now 8 months and I'm still looking for some friendly and intelligent young expats (20-or 30-something) to hang out with, including people from English-speaking countries. I enjoy going out to dinner and dancing at the bars, in addition to coffee, lunch, movies and the occasional outdoor excursion -- I'm open to just about anything.
See, most of my friends here are local, and that's great, but I still also need people whom I can speak to in English at a normal speed. Most of my expat colleagues and neighbours are middle-aged and/or married, or young with other commitments and different interests. The young expats I meet at the Young Professionals Happy Hour I go to every month are mostly very busy with their own social circle, so I'm still short of expat friends to balance out what would otherwise be an interesting multinational social circle for me. So if you're a young expat also looking for expat friends, please reply to this message either here or at: s5nayyar@netscape.net -- thanks!
China: Young English-speaking expats in Beijing?:
Hi,
I am a young (31-year-old) Indo-Canadian woman and have been in Beijing and China for 5 months. I work for a government publication. I was wondering if there are any young (20- or 30-something) expats from English-speaking countries in Beijing who would like to meet new people or make new friends? I live and work in a place where most of the people are middle-aged and/or married, and where even a lot of the younger expats have different interests, so I'd really like to connect with other, preferably English-speaking foreigners (I have already met many lovely locals, but there is a language barrier with them).
A prompt response would be greatly appreciated either on this board or at the following e-mail address: s5nayyar@netscape.net - thanks!
Sapna Nayyar
