Uruguay: On site Property Manager:

Jeanne, I just left you a VM with my number because I have a home in UY, in Club del Lago just outside Punta that is available February and looks like a fit for your situation. Please contact me.

Argentina: Buy apartment in Buenos Aires:

I am selling my apartment on Avenida de Mayo unfurnished. The apartment has many nice pieces of furniture I will need to get rid of in mid April. If you need things, let me know. I will be there the weekend of August 13 to have a garage sale.

Uruguay: Advice on Shipping Large Item from Uruguay to US:

I will be moving a container from my home in Punta back to the US, Montevideo to Savannah, in the next few months. We will have plenty of room and maybe we can take your furniture with us. If anyone else needs furiture moved, please contact me.

Argentina: Selling Apt as Foreigner:

I am a US resident planning to sell my apartment in Buenos Aires. I understand I have to give power of attorney to an argentine to submit my paperwork to AFIP and pay my taxes in order to get permission to sell and get the required certificate. Has anyone been through this process, successfully, and can recommend someone to represent me.

Uruguay: can i buy a car from brazilArgentina and drive in urugauy:

Not legally. I tried to bring a new car from Argentina to uruguay and was stopped by customs on the ferry dock and also on the bridge. If you are a resident of Argentina you could give power of attorney to an Argentinian to drive the car but if you are not a resident you cannot give POAs.

Uruguay: residency process:

I used this company and started the process in November, 2009, before we moved to Uruguay in 2010 and paid half the fee up front. I do believe they are honest and have many clients. However the process takes very long, we still do not have residency! After 2 years with that company, it was suggested that we use a facilitator closer to where we lived in Maldonado. We still have no results although we have met all the requirements, several times in fact. Good luck.

Uruguay: how much average does it cost to move to uruguay from the us:

Once you apply for residency in Uruguay you are given the permission to import your household goods. At that point you need to make a deposit with the National Bank based on the declared value of the contents. After permanent residency is granted you can ask for your deposit to be returned, or if you ship your possession back out of the country you should be able to get your money back. In theory it is easy to get residency but the system has been backed up and the requirements, such as amount of income, seem to change. It also depends on your country of birth. If you were born outside the US you need to get a criminal clearance letter from that country which may take time.

Uruguay: Shipping Household Goods to Uruguay:

Yes, that is true. We moved to Punta del Este 2 years ago and could ship our personal items as soon as we applied for residency. The only requirement is that you post a bond with the National bank of Uruguay (BROU) for the declared value of your shipment which was suggested by my lawyer to be at least $10,000. It will be returned when residency is granted.

Uruguay: We will be making a move...:

I faced the same choice 2 years ago, Uruguay or Argentina. I already had an apartment in Buenos Aires, wanted to relocate from coastal Brazil and did not want to live in a big city. We ended up near Punta del Este (but a world away in many respects) in Uruguay. The political and financial situation in Argentina is impossible. A few months ago it was impossible to get dollars (by decree of the President) and no one outside of Argentina wants their pesos. Inflation is 25-30%. I gave up trying to get residency. We still have our apartment in BA and enjoy the 35 minute flight from Punta to be in a great city every month. Since you mentioned you need to be near an airport there is one (Laguna del Sauce) 5 minutes from our house. And Uruguay seems very stable, the people are friendly, inflation is 7% and banking is easy. Both countries have winters and August is particularly gloomy. If you are visiting in July and August you will see the worst of the weather. I thought I would share my experiences with both countries. Good luck on your move.

Uruguay: Moving to Uruguay soon:

My husband and I just moved to Uruguay and we were very pleased with the company we used, Alvarez Briano Moving and Relocation. They are located near the port in Old Town Montevideo. You can contact the owner, rossana@ab.com.uy, and can use my name, Evelyn Boyd, as someone who recommended them. Good luck with your move.
