Malaysia: Banking in Malaysia:
Hi,
you CAN open a bank account in Malaysia as a tourist, only thing you need is a legal document with your local address, such as a rental agreement. You CAN buy property as a "tourist" too. Banking system is very advanced, recommend HSBC, but investment in overseas stocks is very limited.
Malaysia: Please Help! Moving to Kl with a baby and toddler:
Hello "salmap"!
We enjoy living in Malaysia for a couple of years now. PJ is a good place to live, we lived in a part of it called "Kota Damansara" for a couple of years and liked it very much. It has lots of amenities, like "Sunway Giza Mall" and "The Curve" (my favorite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuZtWHagpY8) is only 5 minutes drive. There are a lot of kindergartens and an international school too.
Sure you´ll find some fellow expats in the area. It´s good to join an expat club or associations have a look at: https://sites.google.com/site/malaysiaauswandern/clubs-associations
Cheers

Malaysia: What to pack when moving to Malaysia:
- What snacks will I miss?
You get most snacks here, Malaysians like sweets.
- Are bras/swimsuits difficult to buy? (I am a D-34)
It´s easy in your size.
- Any clothing items difficult to find?
Not really, there are even shops with winter cloth for traveling here.
- Are drugs (as in legal ones) easily accessed?
You get many things at the pharmacy without prescription. But not a big variety. Vitamins are expensive.
- Are there any hygiene products that cannot be found in Malaysia?
you get nearly everything, but check the ingredients if you have allergies.
- Any foreign "things" that make good gifts?
?

Malaysia: concerns about moving to malaysia:
Hello,
don´t worry! Malaysia is wonderful and so are the people. Open minded, friendly and helpful. It doesn´t matter what religion you have. We recently moved from KL to the countryside, surrounded by locals of all beliefs, but it works. You should only show your respect to Islam (as for any other religion) and follow the local customs (as anywhere). I wrote some educational ebooks with insicer tips for expats in Malaysia, please visit my profile.

Malaysia: Is it better to buy my own property in KL or rent in the current economic climate?:
Hello John,
we moved from Europe to Malaysia a couple of years ago. It is always best to rent a house or condo first. But because of the low property prices real estate is a good investment. But there is a lot you should know before you can sign a rental agreement or "sales and purchase agreement". Check this for the best insider info on that topic:

Malaysia: Relocation Issues:
Hello,
1. A single with LOW standards (but AC and Internet included) can live here for about RM 2500 a month, $885 is approximately RM 2700.
2. In order to apply for MM2H (Malaysia my second home) visa in Malaysia you have to provide a "police clearance certificate" and RM10K monthly income, plus additional fixed deposit.

Malaysia: Sweets you cannot get in Malaysia:
Hello,
I just found Harribo here in Malaysia ;-)., but produced in the UK, anyway.
You can not get "Duplo" +"Hanuta" :-( and Ferrero Roche, Bounty is sooo expensive.
But there are definitely NO "Erdmußlocken" on the market. Ideal for a parcel to Malaysia. I switched to a kind of pea flips meanwhile, not bad either.

Malaysia: attitudes towards Americans:
Hello,
Malaysian people are very friendly to all western expats, Americans are no exception. Under the G.W. Bush government I would have not mentioned to be one, but they like Obama.
Greetings from KL
