Brazil: Transferring money out of Brazil:

I am interested in hearing other's experiences relative to sending money out of Brazil. Does it always have to go through the Bank of Brazil at their higher exchange rate (punative tax) or can it be sent via a better rate some other way?

France: Retiring to France.:

Your official source for this type of information should be a French embassy or consulate. However, from my experience as a retired expat in France, you need to show them you have enough income and a health insurance policy. Expats are no longer allowed to join the French health insurance system. I don't know what the income requirement is these days but be aware of the dangers of the exchange rate changes could have on your future income in UK pounds.

Brazil: Divorce in US, married in Brasil:

Your best source for this kind of legal information is the Brazilian Embassy in Washington DC or the consulate in Miami if you are there. They may tell you if it is really necessary to divorce in Brazil since your American divorce may be accepted in Brazil like your marriage was in the US. Good luck

Brazil: Cost of cars and electronics:

Is there a reason why cars and electrical appliances and electronics are much more expensive in Brazil than the US or Europe? Is it lack of competition, cost of manufacturing, taxes or what? Is importation restricted to control the country's balance of trade?

Brazil: Wikipedia about Floripa:

Here are two Wikipedia sites about Floripa, one in English and the other in Portuguese. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florian%C3%B3polis http://wikitravel.org/pt/Florian%C3%B3polis Enjoy.

Brazil: Expat residents & public health:

Are expats in Brazil allowed to use the public health system if they are legal residents but not Brazilian citizens?

Brazil: Internet, TV and telephone:

Here in France there are several internet services that offer internet, telephone calling via the internet and scores of TV channels including the big US & British networks in English all for 30 euros or $43 a month. Does something like this exist in Brazil?

France: Strasbourg:

As a foreigner, your best bet is with an International Organization like the European Union HQ in Strasbourg. They always post their jobs on their website or in their building. Ask the receptionist or guard where the postings are. However, jobs may be restricted to EU citizens only.

Brazil: Retired with US Social Security:

Are their any expats in Brazil that received US Social Security? If so, can you how you receive the payments in Brazil and how well it goes to cover your cost of living there. Thanks, Jim Kearney Jameskearney@free.fr

Brazil: living in florianopolis:

Daniel, my wife and I live in France. She is Brazilian. I've lived in Rio about 28 years ago when we first got married and I speak Portugues very well. We are thinking of moving to to a town about 25 km from Florianopolis where her family has a large house. Can you give us an estimate of the typical costs of living these days in your area such as Internet, satellite TV service, cell phone (in France all three of these costs $43/mo), medical insurance, food (without restaurants), electricity, etc. France is very expensive these days since the euro keeps gaining on the dollar. Thanks a million, Jim
