Netherlands: Hshld maintennance for board:
Hi everyone,
My name is Marc and I am hoping to move to Lelystad for approximately 6 - 12 months, at the start of 2003.
As I am a highly skilled carpenter, and otherwise handy, I am hopeful that someone living in that part of the Netherlands might provide me a room to stay in, in exchange for general maintennance and/or cleaning. I would provide my own food.
I imagine that I would be able to help around house early in the morning, in the evenings and/or on weekends. I work two jobs now, and as a result, am not un-accustomed to working long hours.
During the day, I would be volunteering most of my day time to an unpaid apprenticeship at the Batavia-Werf shipyard. At least one or two evenings a week, I will be required to attend a Dutch language course at a local school.
I am a hardworker and am willing to do almost anything to make my dream come true. I can't promise that I will build a new extension to anyone's home for free, but I can certainly make other smaller-scale projects happen, i.e. moulding & trim, furniture repair, hanging doors, deck framing, etc.
Though I am pretty quiet, I'm a friendly and upbeat guy. I would listen to my music through headphones and generally spend any remaining time experiencing Holland. I will be traveling alone.
Any takers? Please leave a message, if this is of any interest.
Thank you,
Marc
Netherlands: Travel Grants to Lelystad:
Hi, my name is Marc and I am a United States Citizen. I am in search of travel grants/fellowships that will enable me to support my living expenses in Lelystad for up to one full year. While there, I intend to volunteer my carpentry skills to the Batavia-Werf shipyard.
Has anyone out there had any experience in trying to obtain Travel/Arts/Folk Arts grants for similar overseas projects?
Does anyone know of any specific funding resources that may, for example, be specifically intended for the preservation of maritime history/ heritage.
I am aware of the Foundation Center in NYC, as well as NEFA and NYFA. Unfortunately, I have not yet had a chance to explore these resources in depth. If anyone has contacted these organizations, or any others, with a similar project in mind -- I would greatly appreciate your input.
Thank you, in advance, for your consideration.
