| About Marytb |
I am a product of the 50's navigating my way through samsara, a seeker of truth and I hope to improve the quality of life for anyone I come in contact with.
I believe my purpose here in life is to learn compassion and understand the true nature of existence.
I hope to realize what is truly valuable.

Ecuador: I'm getting it:
| It seems I did have the wrong idea about "moving" to another country. It looks like it is difficult anywhere if you dont have the money. I'm tossing around the thought now of buying a little RV and roaming this country with my mom.
I'm at a loss right now for direction. Miami is not an option it is just too crowded I couldn't stand it. So as I said before I need to do allot more investigating.

Ecuador: Good information:
| There is allot of good information on this site and please know that I appreciate everyones time and energy to contribute. To a newcomer on this site it does seem negative when the positive factors are not weighed into the equation. I do see however that there is more involved with my potential move than I had realized.
My mother and I both went to Mexico to check it out and we stayed in the Lake Chapala area. I did not like it at all, it is far to populated, and noisy. I am looking for a place less populated. I will continue digging and investigating where might be the best place for us.
I can see that all my questions are not going to be answered in a couple of posts and I also see how valuable this site is. Thank you all and I am finding my way here.

Ecuador: Elderly:
| It has come to my attention that my mom of 86 may not be very welcomed.
Does anyone know where I can find more information on this?
She is healthy by any standard, she is a treasure to me, so I need to know how that works.
Thank you
If either one of us had a catastrophic illness, I dont think we could afford to have it taken care of here in the states, not to mention the recuperation, I have had my share here in the states i HAVE been lucky, but many people have been wiped out by an expensive illness here in the states and have no idea how they are going to "make it" financially allot of good people who try to do the right thing.
I also do not think life is about just surviving because no one survives. Its what you do with the time that you have. I could see myself volunteering to help if I had the time. |
Ecuador: ex pat blogs:
| are there other expat blogs that people have found helpful? |
Ecuador: Interesting:
| I find it interesting that allot of the feedback on ecuador seems negative, so I'm wondering what makes the commentators want to live in ecuador?
Also if my mom cannot get residency how often does she have to leave the country?

Ecuador: wealth tax:
| After reading this post I realized I am certainly not looking for another place to live for the same reason allot of other people are. I am not looking to hang onto my wealth, I guess in a way I am, and the small amount of my parents life saving my be considered wealth by many people but it is less than what Obama would consider taxing in the wealth category.
So my interest is in not having to work 50 - 60 hours a week for $500 a week because I have 1,400 $ mortgage which I will never pay off, I do not and cannot afford health insurance here, I just pray I dont get sickas well as I will never be able to spend time with my mother whom I hope to take care of should she live into her 90's
and once she is gone she is gone forever and I could not spend quality time because of the almighty dollar.
I believe it is not right that some people have a disproportionate amount of the wealth while others could not write a check for $500. to save their lives.
I am not just thinking of $$ I am thinking of time,
Can anyone on this exchange relate to me in those terms.? |
Ecuador: info on Ecuador:
| I am thinking of looking at Ecuador as a possible place to retire. I am 60 now, but my job barely keeps me afloat.
I am thinking of making a drastic move that would force me to simplify. I am a meditator and would like more time to meditate. I also live with my 86 yr. old mom that I would like to spend more time with as opossed to working away from home all the time. The only thing she asks for is a sunny bedroom and a swimming pool.
Do anyone know if there are good deals on homes in ecuador? We are thinking of the mountain area.
I wonder about the safety factor there. We pretty much keep to ourselves and if we are in the community we would like to give to the community.
I live in Santa Fe NM and I love it, but I am very cautious about driving here, we have many drunken drivers, and we have our own share of crime here, mostly related to drugs, alcohol and of course money.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has information about Ecuador.
thank you. |
Global Expat Forum: Houses for Under $30,000 in Ecuador?:
| So, could you find something good in the mountain areas for 1K?
How difficult would it be to get workers to put in a swimming pool?
Would you suggest renting first then looking for something to buy? |
