Ecuador: Ebay ~ who knows what you'll find:

I tried to look at this Ebay listing, but clearly I'm doing something wrong. I have tried eveything I can think of: copied and pasted your link onto ebay.ca and .com, searched Ecuador house, tried to be specific, tried to be vague, etc. Can find no real estate in Ec. Clearly others have figured it out, but I can't. Any tips? Thanks

Mexico: What to do or avoid in the Sayulita area?:

Coming down to explore Sayulita and area soon. Any suggestions what not to miss or what to avoid there? This query is deliberately vague, so as to not discourage any responses. Thanks

Ecuador: Self Protection:

ILA, While you do have some relevent and, therefore, helpful tips and info to share here, I try not to read or respond to your posts because of the way I feel you have treated me in the past, but I can't keep my mouth shut on this one. One of my very first posts on this forum was in response to someone elses post. I can't refer directly to it because the archives appear to not go back that far anymore, if I'm searching that properly. Anyway, that thread contained, among other things, some political and religious comments. You piped in with how inappropriate politics and religion are on this forum and how offended you were and that we shouldn't be talking about that. You then went on a lengthy political/military/religion tirade that, in my opinion, trumped everyone else in spades. I call that hypocricy. You then sent me a PM that I can only assume had you druling on your keyboard and spitting on your screen while typing it. You came across to me as hysterical and mentally unstable. I quoted some parts of that PM in the thread and at that time didn't know who it had come from. You attacked with "...I guess PMs aren't private anymore...etc.", so it was you, not I, that revealed you as the author of that PM to me. My point here is, again, your hypocricy, I find it blatant, nonsensical and disturbing that you would publicly revealing him as the author of a PM to you. This is in no way a defence of Ldawg's past comments, but, as I said, an observation once again of your (ILA's) own great hypocricies. Regardless of what anyone here feels about Ldawg, he has every right to be offended by this treatment by ILA. I think this betrayal of confidence goes way beyond any cheezy joke or poorly informed comments. Some here may disagree, but that's how I feel. Frankly ILA, I don't think there's a pier short enough. Todd

Ecuador: Baggage:

Long threads often wind up morphing into something quite irrelevent to the original topic. This may be the first time I have seen it move so off topic, but the thread title remain so relevent. Well done! ha ha

Ecuador: Banned from International Living (IL):

Good info Jugeton. Clearly there is very little enforcement of these laws and I have never seen anyone mention the laws or the orginizations that should be advocating for enforcement of them. It would be in the organizations' best interest to see these laws enforced, if only to force payment to them of Realtor licensing dues. Does anyone know which organization issued a license to Amy Prisco? Hey Hector & Kim, maybe it's time to get licensed in Ecuador, at the very least it may lessen the amount of banter we have to read about it here. You could probably acurately claim to be producing in The top 1 percentile of registered Realtors in Ecuador just by default.

Ecuador: Car Rental in Ecuador:

Just like "itsnotsobad" I used my credit card only once, at Hertz car rental at Quito airport. $3000 worth of dental work, area rug and electrical equipment was charged to my card. There is nothing you can do to stop that, but be aware and look for those potential charges. Look for the newest car on the lot and ask for it. Many of the cars had high milage and maintenance didn't seem that good. I had to return the first car they gave me because it didn't want to idle once it warmed up. Make sure the tank is full when you get it or have them run off and fill it for you. I am in my 40's and comfortable driving anything (except air brakes)anywhere, but driving in Quito was crazy. I think I handled the challenge well and enjoyed it, but coming out of old town at rush hour we got stuck in a loop that took four tries to get out of. Would I do it that way again? and in my 60's? Maybe not. If you can avoid driving in the big cities, do so. Head for the coast as soon as you get the car. Driving will still be crazy, but there is generally more elbow room between you and others. Expect big trucks and busses to be coming at you in your lane on blind corners, in the rain, in the fog. Try not to use goats and cows as speed bumps even though they make good imitations of them. Some of the speed humps as you come into villages will be slightly higher than your car has clearance, so you will just have to slowly drag your bottom along them. I found the Hostal Revolucion in Quito and the Coco Bongo in Bahia were able to offer indoor parking when I expressed concern about leaving the car out over night.

Ecuador: Bad Tenant in Quito:

I wouldn't recommend taking the front doors. In BC, Canada the tenant would eventually have the right to hire a tradesman to replace the door, bill it to the landlord and charge them for the inconvenience, as it would be deemed an illegal rent increase in that the property was degraded but the rent was not reduced. In my 20 years as a property manager I can tell you the most important thing I learned is that the best way to evict a bad tenant is to never rent to them in the first place. In other words, always learn how to be a successful landlord before you start renting to people. There will always be that one that slipped through and I'm not suggesting you are a bad landlord. Becoming a landlord is easy, becoming a good landlord who enjoys their job and is appreciated by their tenants is more work. I have learned that I can't be lazy, if I am the income goes down and the work gets harder.

Ecuador: Ecuador judge orders jail, fines for newspaper:

Here here, Silverwater. If the press lies to manipulate the news to advance an agenda, they should be removed by waterever means the local laws support. If it's a politician or whomever that is being reported on that lies, then they should suffer the same fate.

Ecuador: HGTV House Hunters International Returns To Salinas:

Any Canadian viewers of HHI on HGTV able to help me find the Ecuador episodes? Canadian scheduling seems to be different than elsewhere. I have checked their website and can not find any mention of any Ecuador episodes. Never been able to catch any of them. Copyrights in Canada seem to have Youtube and other potential web sources blocking Canadian viewers.

Ecuador: 100 dollar bills:

I found that Visa and MC were accepted at any well established business, but I only used my MC twice. Once at a gringo map/book store in Quito and once at Hertz car rental. One of the staff at Hertz used my card to buy themself a rug, electrical supplies and a trip to the dentist. I found this out when my bill arrived after returning home, so be aware of that possibility. (MC did reverse the charges, so it worked out OK for me.)
