Advice for New Expats

There are different ways to prepare depending on whether one is a single person, married, or married with children or retirees. One thing I would advice people if they are about to move abroad, make sure that you have your medical certificate, your police clearance, your birth certificate, marriage certificates authenticated from your country of origin. Get certified copies of your birth and marriage certificates. Back them all up, leave copies to your trusted relative or friends. Inform a trusted relative or friends where you are moving and keep them updated. I wouldn't live in Mindanao ever, but there are people who are and there are expats who are enjoying and surviving :) Anyway, I just met with a group of British and other nationals who have been in the Philippines for the last 20 years and what they do is provide security systems, security measures for expats and other VIPs. If you are interested, I can connect you with them so you can find out how you can secure yourself. You can be secured from the time you leave UK, even if you need to do a stopover to another country and upon arrival here at General Santos. Found it fascinating that we have that kind of group here. I am looking at it from the standpoint of protecting my own family as well and whenever there might be a chance that some expats like us will be in a group anywhere. It's always best to have security measures wherever we are. Plan well. Invest well. Insure well. Live well. Pinaymentor
