Guatemala: Attorney in Antigua?:

this involves more than finding an attorney who speaks english !! much more & unnecessary to speak english. BUT before the attorney can marry you he must publish the edictos de matrimonio in the ¨official¨ newspaper twice. you need an original fotocopy of your birth certificate, authenticated by guate consulate there & authenticated by ministry of foreign relations here ) plus more paperwork. blood tests. can you get all the paperwork together in 1 month ? check out internet for FULL requirements. since he was deported he is not eligible for entry to the us for 10 years. marriage does not lessen the time. good luck

Guatemala: Huevos and changing the price?:

pronunciation of ¨huevos¨ not important. avoid use of the word ¨comb¨ , as in ´lend me your comb´ . comb sounds like penis - easy to pronounce wrong. posters - a small grain of truth,, but not much. agree on price beforehand. goods or services. ask if there are additional charges -- invoice ( FACTURA ), c.c. purchase, extra taxes ( room tax in hotels on top of sales tax ), delivery charges. shake hands or get it in writing to be super clear. there should be no hidden charges.

Guatemala: climate:

it´s the rainy season. it´s cold & damp at night. 84 degrees at 4,200 ft altitude is not hot. 84 degrees at sea level is HOT.

Guatemala: Relocating to Lake Atitlan:

ron,, travel smart. pick a place to start. plan on a hotel, hostal for a few days. check out the surroundings, people, services, THEN, IF & ONLY IF, you feel comfortable, find a longer term apt. or rental. maybe you choose pana but... san pedro, marcos, whatever appeal to you more and you are STUCK having committed blindly to an unwanted rental

Guatemala: Jobs in Guatemala City or Antigua?:

hello jennifer -- pato gave you excellent advice. it is ILLEGAL for a foreigner to work in guatemala without a work permit/visa or residency - not only do you run the risk of fines or at worst deportation but your employer is also subject to fines.

Guatemala: Might relocate to Guatemala City. safety concerns...:

hi ' i´ll try to give you some answers in sequence. does the job require you to live in guatemala city ? if so, your options are severely limited - either living in a gated community or zone 10, the zona viva, where you can walk around at night. have you been to guatemala ? it doesn´t sound like it - as you refer to the need to look over your shoulder constantly. i have lived here 23 years and feel quite safe ' there are bad areas everywhere, they are known - just don´t go there ! what buses are you referring to - guatemala city municipal buses are to be avoided. extra urban transportation, between towns, is fine, but often crowded, 3 to a school bus sized seat. i would recommend living in antigua and you commute to the city for work if that is an option. i drive at all hours of the day or night, all over the country and have never had a problem. hope this helps.
