Saudi Arabia: Horse Riding in Riyadh:

I know Im a little late on the conversation, but thought i'd add my piece aswell. The stables in the DQ is apparently for women and children only. I have been told there is another riding school near the salwa compound although I dont know where this is. I am the new female instructor at The International Equestrian School in Malaz nr. Riyadh anybody can go there - they have a seperate section for men and women and are trying to set up some female polo teams if anyone is interested in that. They also have a livery facility here although im unsure how it works with bringing your own horses in and whether being a woman makes any difference here???? contact info for IES iesksa@gmail.com my number is 0530881055 Other trainers... Saudi Arabia: Just Moved to Riyadh...American:

Have been in Riyadh for a month now and having an awsome time - I dont think you can ever be stuck for something to do here. If your looking to meet people then you must join groups and embassy social lists - someone is always doing something - and its singles couples men women kids - everbody gets together As for a car - i would definately recomend a 4x4 (perhaps a prado) desert trips are so much fun!!!! louise91287@hotmail.co.uk

Saudi Arabia: 8 year old girls and abaya:

Hi, I never cover my hair but always carry a scarf. Only once have i been stopped by muttawa and they were polite and discrete when asking me to cover my hair, This was in Kingdom Mall. I have been out with and seen other blonde women without a scarf on plenty of times. In both malls and in markets. My understanding of girls and abayas is that they are s'posed to wear one when they hit puberty so i would guess this would really be at your discretion. And what the girls look like - if they are going to attract unwated attention, best to cover up - a friends girl is 10 and wears one when she feels like it. louise91287@hotmail.co.uk

Saudi Arabia: moving to Riyahd in February.:

Hi, I have been in Riyadh for about a month now and was a little cautious of how life might be here - although im sure stories you hear have come from somewhere i would say they are vastly exagerated. i have not once had a problem here and I have been out both alone and in groups almost everyday. Its annoying having to wait for a driver all the time but this is the only thing i hate here - The abaya is no hassle its actually nice to not worry about what you look like because it doesnt matter :D I was worried about being stopped by Muttawa until it actually happened - i was alone in the Kingdom Mall - and literally all it was was they said to cover my hair as they walked past. They even said excuse me and please. They are very quiet about it and quick as i believe mulsim men are not allowed to talk to women??? Or something along these lines Riyadh is awsome - there is always something to do wheter it be shopping, parties, sight seeing off roading. You will never be stuck for something to do.
