France: IRAs - Pensions per Article 18 of tax treaty?:

For a permanent U.S. resident of France, does Article 18, Paragraph 1a include IRAs in this definition: "except as provided in subparagraph (b), pensions and other similar remuneration, including distributions from pension and other retirement arrangements, derived and beneficially owned by a resident of a Contracting State in consideration of past employment, whether paid periodically or in a lump sum, shall be taxable only in that State"? If not, will conversion of IRAs to Annuities accomplish the exclusion from French taxation? Thanks...Gary

I would love some verification of this, but in any case ... It seems that by requesting status as a "deemed non-resident" (interesting terminology for a resident), one essentially excludes all out-of-country assets from this requirement. The status seems to be fairly automatic if selected. But some opportunities for deductions are lost, though they seem to be inconsequential in my case. Any independent verification out there? Cheers...Gary

And, of course, you still need the other power cord. I would recommend buying one and not simply affixing a new plug. Cheers...Gary 'my G4 works fine in NL' Mason
