Taiwan: Need help regarding working as foreigner in Taiwan:

Hi I will be relocating to Taiwan as an expat status. But so far I don't have any clue about what I need to do in taiwan. Do i need to apply for a foreign worker permit with the Taiwan government ahead of time? Is there an agency or website that deals with this? Also, if my pay is paid by my U.S. company to my U.S. bank account, do I still need to pay any tax in Taiwan locally? If you have been through this and know the answer, please help me.
