Kuwait: Sour cream and Greek yogurt:

I found some in Carrefour before, but the last time I was there they had run out. They also sell some in the Lulu on 208 road, the supermark in the 360 mall also sells it. I would imagine also Dean & Delucia's specialist supermark in the avenues would sell it, but can't confirm.

Kuwait: husband in kuwait:

Yes you can come out. You will need to come out on a dependant visa if you are not working yourself. You will also need to pass a medical & police background checks. Not sure whether this is different for Easterners (Kuwait can be bad like that) but this is certainly the case for Westerners. Thanks

Kuwait: What to do during Ramadan during the day?:

Hi, My wife comes over for a holiday during Ramadan (it was the only time she could make it) which is fine in the evenings, but I was wondering what is open during the day? Are malls open? Supermarkets like Carrefour? Cinemas? If someone could let me know what is open and the times they are open that would be a big help. Obviously during the evening everything is open and bussling, but I'm particularly interested in during the daytime. Thanks Andrew

Kuwait: Searching Hi & Lo- Where did the jobs go?:

Hi, I can't really help but I just wondered are you currently based in Kuwaitk, or have you been before? I guess everywhere has been hit by the global credit crunch....

Kuwait: Squash or Tennis:

Hi, Not sure about Salmiya (sure there will be) but there are courts in Ahmadi towards the South of the city that are ok - near the KOC offices. Tennis courts there too. Plus lot's of hotels have both tennis and squash courts that if you are a member you can play for free, or probably just pay a fee on the day. Thanks

Kuwait: Regional Travel / Banking / Cell Phone:

Hi, I would definately sort your phone out when you get here. There are loads of places where you can get them, ranging from upmarket places like Zain, to more of a corner shop. I guess Zain will do monthly contracts but not too sure of costs as my company pays for and organises mine. It is expensive to use a US / UK phone here though. I've flown to Dubai on Jazeera airways and it was around 30KD each way. I booked online, not sure about just turning up - I prefer the ease of having everything sorted. Re banking - NBK is the best place to go. I set up mine with a passport as ID. You will need to create an EPIN (which is a bit of a bugger I found) and also increase the limit of the amount you can send home, as the standard is 2000 KD. The maximum you can up it to is 20,000 KD - you just need to sign some paperwork. Just set it up when you get here mate. Andrew

Kuwait: Computers / Garment Sizes:

Personally I would buy your PC in the US - certainly when I've been looking at things like IPads. they seem much more expensive here. Not looked at PC's though. No idea about the shirt question, but would say that the shopping is as good if not better than in the UK where I'm from. You can get everything here in the malls, at reasonable prices.

Kuwait: Internet and Skype in Kuwait:

Hi, I downloaded Skype to my laptopn before I moved here, and I have been able to use it no problems. Well, the signal isn't the best and it may cut out every now and again, but it seems to work fine. You can't get onto the site though, so if you wanted to dial to a actual telephone number, get someone in the UK / UK / where ever you are from to top it up for you. Thanks Andy

Kuwait: Requesting Info On Kuwait - Before Relocating Family:

Hi, I recently moved to Kuwait 2 weeks ago, and have been looking for apartments, so can probably help a bit with that side of your question. In general, a 2 bed apartment that is fully furnished (with electricity, internet, gas etc all included) and up to a Western standard is between 450 - 700KD. Quite a range I know. What I have noticed is that there are lots of 2 beds at around the 500 mark, then they seem to jump up quite high - usually dependant on the furniture, pool / gym and other amenities. That said, I have found a 3 bedroom apartment that is really nicely done out for 575 KD. There doesn't seem to be that much middle ground, and there always seems to be way too many bathrooms (mine has 4!). I think perhaps the best thing to do regarding locations is to actually drive around a bit and see where you think looks best. I work in Shuaiba so have found an apartment around the Mangaf / Mahboula area. You really want to make sure that you are near enough to work / shops etc. I think prices are slightly more expensive the nearer you get to the northern tip of the city though, but I’m pretty sure everything is cheaper here than Dubai. You can get floors in villa's unfurnished from around 400 upwards really, however you will need to furnish them yourselves. This can be very expensive as the villas tend to be huge! Not sure about maids - I would suggest speaking to the harriss in your building as it is likely others in the building may employ someone - I suppose it depends whether you want full or part time. Everyone drives here. I would suggest a car each; otherwise it could be quite difficult to get around, unless your husband can get a lift to work from a colleague. I would think though 2 cars is the way to go.

Kuwait: Food shopping in Kuwait....:

Hi, I arrived in Kuwait last week and am settling in slowly but surely. At the moment I'm staying in and around Mangaf where our company transit apartments are - I have found a sultan centre nearby (kind of like a warehouse) and the supermarket at Al Kout that looks nice. Does anyone know any other supermarkets around that sell most things? Also, I'm looking to buy some 'oriental foods' - sort of the stuff I would buy in China town in London. Does anyone know a good place to go? I guess with the large filipino / chinese communities there should be some markets somewhere. Don't suppose anyone knows a good place to buy Itialian ingredients (if there is any?). I'm thinking 00 flour and other stuff like that - might be a bit too specialised but will see. Any help appreciated. Thanks Andrew
