Israel: Renter's Insurance:

Please allow me to introduce myself. I am the Housing Manager at a consulting firm that specializes in providing cost-of-living research for multinational firms sending their employees abroad to live and work in international locations. While we generally do on-site research, we have not visited Israel in several months because of security concerns. So I am hoping that those of you on the ground would be able to share a little of your expertise with me. We recently heard from an expat who is renting a home in TelAviv that he must pay a mandatory insurance against damage to the house caused by the tenant. He indicates that this is a different policy than insurance paid for personal belongings inside the house. Is this "damage insurance" manadatory or typical for expats? If any of you pay this, what does it cover, how is payment regulated and what are typical rates. I would assume that it based on the value of the property? If at all possible, I would love to get the email address for an insurance agency that deals with English-speaking clients. If any one can help - I would be very grateful! Thank you! ECoupe
