India: Mumbai - the wage gap:

I'm an Australian advertising exec hoping to move to Mumbai with my wife and children. I currently earn $135,000 AUD ($123,000 USD / 5,600,000 INR) and am concerned that the equivalent roles in Mumbai are paying about 1,000,000 INR ($22,000 USD). From reviewing recent posts on various forums it seems like most expats should expect much closer to the salaries they receive in their home countries. Can anyone shed any light on this wage gap? Could my family and I live with any comfort on this wage? If we were to move to Mumbai, on a 1,000,000 INR wage, what would our lifestyle be like? Thanks.
