Mexico: I asked a simple question.:
I asked a simple question.
Have you experienced an increase in the hostility towards Americans?
My thanks to all of you who replied to my question. It appears that if you are a long term Mexican expat. There are no visible changes. If you are a little newer there has been an increase.
In my experience this forum is wildly biased in favor of the host country. Not just Mexico. I have posted in Mexico, Thailand and Ecuador. In Ecuador if you post anything that can be interpreted as slightly negative about the host country you get will death threats, ok that is a slight exaggeration but not much. To honest Mexico is not far behind. The police still suck in Ecuador and not that helpful in Mexico.
The gringo tax is wrong.
Get real, every county has stuff that sucks. Why do you think there is an entire section devoted to culture shock, it is very real?
I also said. I do not want your political opinions on Trump or anybody else.
There is disease for which there is no cure. There are no support groups and no research is being done on it.
It seems to be related the human strain of the well know cattle disease. Hoof and mouth disease. There is a vaccine for the cattle strain. Sadly, there is no vaccine for the human strain.
What you did not know there a human strain of hoof and mouth disease. I am sure you know several people who suffer from it. Every time they open their mouth they stick their foot in it.
I am speaking of hoof and mouth strain mutation 7.
Thirty percent of all Americans suffer from it. The infection rate is constant worldwide, except for France. In France, the infection rate is 72 percent.
It seems to be a viral infection that settles between the jaw the ear. The dominate symptom of hoof and mouth strain mutation 7, is when the victims are speaking they become completely deaf. Or as my grandfather use to tell me. “You cannot learn a god damn thing with your mouth open boy”
I am reposting just to see who I piss off. I also going to put this on the original post until I can figure out how to cancel.
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Looking for Room to rent - Cuenca:
I think your best bet is a motel. They will give you a better rate if you are willing to pay for a week at a time in advance.
In more than a few country’s I have paid for a room on line for the first day of two. It gave me a to place stay the first night and a base of operation. Without exception I, have been able to get a place as nice or nicer than the one I booked on line for the half price. For bargains stay away from the chains.
Mexico: Have you experienced an increase in the hostility towards Americans?:
I have made several extended trips to Mexico. The last time I toured most of the Yucatan.
I occasionally encountered some mild hostility. I recently read a Crags list post saying Americans are being threatened. I wrote them asking for details. I never got an answer. I am planning on spending a few months between Cancun and Tulum. in the next few weeks.
I jumped on the two post titled. Have you eexperienced anti amercanism thread and Have you experanced anti American Sentiment.
I do not want your political opinions on Trump or anybody else.
I am asking please.
Have you experienced an increase in the hostility towards Americans? Or received a first-person report of it? That all I want to know.
Thank you.
Ecuador: Tit for Tat - here goes the bubble - Ecuador's ambassador gone:
Donny:
I have not read the forum for a while. The title of this one caught my attention.
After I read your post I did a few minutes of research to see if I could find out what was going on.
It appears the Americana ambassador sent a cable to his bosses about the police corruption in Ecuador. It was leaked. Ecuador got mad and kicked out the ambassador. America did the same.
It is standard protocols to kick out the ambassador when they kick out yours.
I had one unfortunate experience with the police in Ecuador. It was blatantly obvious to me that the police were corrupt and I suspect involved at least to the point of providing protection to the thief’s. Later experiences and conversations lead me to believe that police corruption is the norm rather that the exception. Police corruption is the worst kept secret in Ecuador.
You stated “this whole thing could have been planned by the USA from the onset” I think we will never know the truth. However there is no shortage of people in Ecuador and on this site that tend to blame the USA for all the worlds evils. I get tired of it.
From what I see the Americana ambassador got kicked out for telling the truth. On second thought that is a dumb thing for an ambassador to do.

The cable that spurred the U.S.-Ecuador flap was disseminated by WikiLeaks and published Monday by Spanish daily El Pais.
"Corruption among Ecuadorian National Police officers is widespread and well-known," according to the July 2009 report to the State Department from the U.S. Embassy in Quito.
The document says that Jaime Hurtado, who commanded the ENP from April 2008 to June 2009, "used his positions to extort bribes, facilitate human trafficking, misappropriate public funds, obstruct investigations and prosecutions of corrupt colleagues, and engage in other corrupt acts for personal enrichment."
The cable also takes a swipe at Correa for deciding to promote Hurtado to ENP chief.
"Hurtado's corrupt activities were so widely known within the upper ranks of the ENP that some Embassy officials believe that President Correa must have been aware of them when he made the appointment. These observers believe that Correa may have wanted to have an ENP Chief whom he could easily manipulate," the message says.
Ecuador: Coming to Ecuador for 1st visit:
You seem to be willing to do a lot of research. I bloged a 60 trip for my friends and family, I had a great time and made some stupid mistakes. It might be worth a look.
PS; I hate people that send me a link trying to sell me something. This is just a diary honest. http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/Rambler341
Ecuador: Saftey:
In Guayaquil getting things like a purse, back pack or a camera snatched is a very common problem. Keep an eye on your stuff. There are also numerous stories about the buses and taxies not being safe.
Be aware that if you have a problem the local police are no help at all. They do not care and are corrupt.
You need to be constantly aware of your surroundings. I do not believe it is any better or worse that most poor third world countries. It is a great place and can it be fun also cheap.
I am sorry to be a negative voice. However one of the problems with this site is the overly optimistic people on it. They sugar coat too much stuff.
If you do not speak Spanish every thing is much harder.
Ecuador: 1st visit:
For your first trip do not spend any more time in Guayaquil than necessary. I recently spent a couple of weeks there. It can sour you on the entire country. Wait until you are in love with Ecuador to experience Guayaquil. It is not for the newbie. Cuenca and the beach towns are a different world from Guayaquil.
Please the hate mail will not change my mind.
